- Comment on New RPG Maker Entry Announced With HD-2D Style Visual Shift 1 week ago:
I know, but with the last version they did not support Linux anymore. The version before that was supported on Linux. So its unclear at the moment if the next version will do.

Will it run on Linux? (I mean the editor, not the games it produces.)
- Comment on Pragmata's newly revealed New York stage was painstakingly made by human developers to look "AI generated," according to director - AUTOMATON WEST 1 week ago:
I don’t know, but to me this doesn’t look soulless or sloppy at all. As they explain:
It mirrors reality, but its unique appeal comes from the setting errors and how they feel out of place, such as taxis sinking into floors, or buses sprouting from walls.
It’s more about the errors that typically happen with Ai too. But it can be something your art direction wants to have, and by accident it looks like Ai generated. I don’t think they want it to have look like Ai generated on purpose, but the art they are going with looks by accident like Ai.

- Comment on Today’s layoffs (Epic Games official post) 2 weeks ago:
It’s all about anticheat support. The game would likely run on a Linux desktop, but Epic chose not to support Linux devices. They officially said (I have no source to link to it at hand) that they don’t believe the anti cheat would work well in Linux, because it lacks root access. On Android on the other hand they have a better sandbox and control. But most importantly, on Android they have a wider audience and that is basically all it counts for them. Epic CEO Tim said, if the Steam Deck gets sold enough, they will consider it.
I’m just listing what has been said, not sharing their same opinion.
- Comment on Today’s layoffs (Epic Games official post) 2 weeks ago:
It’s even playable on the phone, so they would not lose complete access to the game. Unless you are really invested into it, it does not matter on what you play. I have a Xbox, so when I wanted to play Fortnite, i would rather play on console than installing Windows on my computer.
- Comment on Today’s layoffs (Epic Games official post) 2 weeks ago:
Maybe we get an Overwatch like hero shooter, Fortnite Rivals… But they do not support Linux, therefore I don’t care what happens to Fortnite.
- Comment on Remaster of the legendary Defender of the Crown game is being developed by a Ukrainian studio 2 weeks ago:
To me there is a clear distinction between both types. Sometimes it gets blurry if they use different techniques from both sides. There is also the term “Port”, which is less of a “Remaster”. So its even more blurry, even when I try to formally describe it. Here is my definition:
- Remaster: Basically taking the same code and base and “recompile” it for a new version. Graphics are usually not remade, programming code is the same (but with touch ups off course). Rather it has higher resolution output from original graphics, like higher res textures compiled from original resources, adding functionality to make the game compatible with modern hardware and features like HDR and gamepads in example.
- Remake: Making a new game from scratch, programming it again (off course they can take over old stuff), with new graphics to approximate the same game. Sometimes they even manage to make the game look and feel the same, where people think its a Remaster. But in fact it is programmed from scratch and has no common source in anymore, it is just faithfully recreated.
Off course this is just one mans definition. And both terms are used somewhere in between, and people don’t share my opinion. Therefore I never know if the game is a Remaster or Remake actually.

- Comment on The RAM crisis could completely change how developers make video games 3 weeks ago:
For the most part they don’t. And it is only one reason why Indie games are important. The other is that the games often tend to be cheaper, sometimes more innovative, doesn’t try to put micrtransactions in everything and so on.
- Comment on The RAM crisis could completely change how developers make video games 3 weeks ago:
That is not really true. I use same graphics card and upgrade it with new console cycle. Or maybe once in between.

Indie games are more important than ever.
- Comment on What are your best memories of playing Civilization III? 3 weeks ago:
I doubt it runs on linux. Last time I tried 15 years ago, it ran but everything was black and the mouse wouldn’t capture within the game window.
Civ Revolution is not available for PC. So did you try a different Civ game on Linux? If you want play the PS3 version again and have a powerful machine, then emulating PS3 with RPCS3 is an option. The compatibility rating for the game on the emulator is rated as Playable.
- Comment on Steam :: About the New York Attorney General lawsuit against Valve 3 weeks ago:
I think lots of people have a problem or could get a problem with that, and don’t realize it. I mean it is similar to the shitty microtransactions situation on smartphone games. I say similar in the sense, that most people don’t have a problem with it, compared to the population and how many have a problem. This should not be an excuse for exploitation of the weak ones.
But besides that, I don’t even think its a problem with a few only. Even the potential of getting addicted is bad. There are reasons why children (i mean under 18) are not allowed in casinos. Are these games and the gambling with CS:GO and Team Fortress 2 for 18+ only? Whatever it is, we all know younger people play these games too. If not the microphone is a good indication… but I digress here. I hope the market place in Steam will go away. There is no good reason for, other than Valve making money. There is not benefit for humanity or the people.
BTW the situation with my bro was not that too bad, just saying. It was a slight problem, but one that showed me first hand (or is it second hand?). I am also glad you made it through your difficult times.
- Comment on Steam :: About the New York Attorney General lawsuit against Valve 3 weeks ago:
I just briefly mentioned EA for having lootboxes. It could have been any other company. My point is, if any other company did what Valve did, I would hate that too. Also that the items in Steam / Valve games are transferable doesn’t matter, because it is still lootbox, a chance and gamble to get something and to get addicted. In fact, being able to transfer and sell or trade makes this even worse than static micro transactions to me. It is the same problem with collectable sports or Pokemon cards (which is in my opinion worse, because kids can buy them and get addicted…).
To make that clear: To me the trade market of Valve is a huge problem. This should not be a thing with videogames. Not even EA does that, or any other company for that matter (I am not focused on EA, it was just an example).
My bro in example got addicted to CS:GO skins and wasted lot of money. Because he could get the one expensive item and could sell it for lots of money. And that is not okay!
- Comment on Steam :: About the New York Attorney General lawsuit against Valve 3 weeks ago:
As much as I like Valve, I really hate their virtual items trade market and the lootboxes in some of their games. I hate if EA does that, so I hate if Valve does that. And comparing them to real cards falls flat, because virtual cards are not real cards. Valve does not want give up the trade market, because they get money for doing nothing with each transaction.
This topic is the biggest flaw and problem I have with Valve, otherwise I am a Valve lover and fanboy.
- Comment on Sony Faces $2.7 Billion UK Lawsuit Over PlayStation Store Monopoly Claims | TechPowerUp} 4 weeks ago:
While I am a Valve fanboy, I still have to agree that Valve is not innocent. There are stuff I hate about Valve doing. But its not about abusing monopoly position (I even argue its not real monopoly position, but that’s not my main point). So yes, Valve is not innocent, but “leave Valve alone” in the context of accusing them to abuse their monopoly position.
- Comment on Sony Faces $2.7 Billion UK Lawsuit Over PlayStation Store Monopoly Claims | TechPowerUp} 4 weeks ago:
Even Valve gets sued, while being on an open platform and having real competition unlike the single stores on consoles. Next sue Nintendo for having monopoly on handhelds, in the same vein as Sony on consoles and Valve on PC platform.

- Comment on Ubisoft could rely heavily on microtransactions and live-service Assassin's Creed games 4 weeks ago:
Honestly I hope they don’t. There are still talented people working and creating games, not always the best ones, but still. And they own lot of beloved franchises. Bankrupt would be the worst case. If they go down, then I hope another company (Tencent?) will buy Ubisoft.

- Comment on Sony is testing dynamic pricing: one game - different prices on the PlayStation Store 4 weeks ago:
Valve is also the only company out of these big gaming companies who do lot of Open Source (working on it and funding other projects) and care about Linux. It maybe coincidental, but these care and goals align with my personal interests. No other company in the gaming industry does that to this extend, plus its an open platform. And being a private company brings also lot of freedom to not listen to shareholders.
The only thing is, that Steam itself is not Open Source… and the uncertainty what will happen if one day Gabe will no longer control…
