- Comment on What's the point of specifically Americans identifying with other cultures if people born there will just make fun of them for it? 1 week ago:
So I’m not American but I do identify as Mexican-Canadian. I am an immigrant so for me that is a very important distinction.
In my perspective though, I wouldn’t ever want to make fun of someone for identifying as whatever. However, there is something about the cultural aspect of it that bothers me. If you are many generations in and have, for all intents and purposes, lost your connection with the hyphenated part of your culture, and don’t have any intent to learn with or contect with that culture other than by name, it does feel a bit preformative. If someone is actively reconnecting with their culture and trying to learn/understand more about their heritage, then it’s fine IMO, otherwise it seems disrespectful/appropriative. You can just as easily say “my ancestry is _____”, without claiming it as your culture.
- Comment on How do you feel about Trump's State of the Union address, and do you think people should study and read socialist theory as soon as they unlearn anticommunist propaganda? 1 week ago:
Haven’t seen it, not from the US, but people should definitely be reading socialist theory and finding local socialist/leftist organizations to work and learn with.
- Comment on From what I see in the US, people having kids are fucking up the world for kids more than people without kids 2 weeks ago:
Look I’m as child-free as they get and certainly don’t think the world needs more humans, but this is a weird take. This is a class war and you got your gun pointed in the wrong direction.

Most parents I know are not rich people, also. Seems this person specifically dislikes rich parents.
- Comment on Is it normal to be mildly exhausted after talk therapy? 3 weeks ago:
Yep, after therapy is usually a 1-2 hr cry followed by a 2-3 hr nap. Either that or I feel fantastic and lighter and super productive. There is no inbetween.
- Comment on Does it happen when the law arrest a drug kingpin or whatever and they off the cops something like 10mil a piece to let him/her go? Has anyone ever actually taken it? Or is movie trope? 4 weeks ago:
If you’re asking if criminals can/do own cops, yes, it happens. Look at the current state of the US or certain areas in Mexico. I only mention these two countries because I don’t know enough about other countries to make direct statements, but I am certain it happens. But it’s not like at a low level cop, it’s more likely the actual sheriffs or DAs or people in power. Those that have the power to let the criminals go.
In terms of low level cops taking bribes in general, and again I only mention Mexico from experience, but it is very common. Common enough that there’s a name for it (mordida), and that they’ll threaten regular folks who have maybe minor infractions to get some cash. (acab and all)

If you don’t think about politics in the shower, you are privileged enough not to have shitty policy directly affecting your life. This isn’t the case for most of us, but lucky you I guess.
- Comment on We need libraries, but instead of books, you borrow musical instruments. 5 weeks ago:
Omg the tools would be dope. We have so much shit in our house that’s been used once and then stored away forever.
- Comment on We need libraries, but instead of books, you borrow musical instruments. 5 weeks ago:
People who can’t afford instruments would disagree with you, I’m sure. Imagine all the great music we miss out on because someone couldn’t afford an instrument or a lesson. What we need as a society is to provide for each other.
- Comment on Are there any quick ways I can study, read and process socialist/communist theory? 1 month ago:
If you want a very quick and extremely easy to read overview that covers the basic concepts, I highly recommend “it’s not you, it’s capitalism” by Malaika Jabali.
It discusses theory in a more modern way and is set up as beginner reading but gives a lot of jumping off points for further reading. It is very US-centric.
- Comment on I CAN'T go outside without permission - is there any way I can help fight for a better world from the comfort of my bedroom? 1 month ago:
I know plenty of local groups that appreciate volunteer support that doesn’t require leaving your house. The hard part is finding them.
You could search on social media or community/city sites, reach out to organizations that you align with and see if they need any administrative support or anything you can do from home. A lot of people need help managing emails for their orgs for example, or proof reading documents. If you believe in any local politicians, you can see if they’re doing phone banks, etc.
Once you find and start working with groups where you feel like you’re making a positive impact in the world, the optimism follows.

- Comment on What's it going to take to truly stop the US? 2 months ago:
Organize to educate and unite people on a class front. It’s not about left or right, it’s up or down.
Mamdani won support from Trump voters by listening and running on a class campaign. People just want to eat.
- Comment on What's it going to take to truly stop the US? 2 months ago:
I think a workers revolution could do the trick. Get yourselves organized down there and get some head’s rolling.
- Comment on Should leftists who are anti-authoritarian use the term "comrade"? 2 months ago:
You’re not wrong though. I’ve definitely had pretty left leaning (not overtly socialist) friends see the word “comrade” and immediately assume communism. I don’t like the word personally but I’m learning to get used to it as I find more socialist circles irl. It’s hard to separate it from the memes.
- Comment on "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results" is impossible, because time changes whenever we try to do the same thing. 2 months ago:
This quote is not referring to the scientific method, it is social.
If a person tries to address an emotional issue by eating chocolate or by drinking alcohol, and then the emotional issue keeps happening, and every time they address it with the same solution, then that is “insanity”. You’re doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Sure you’re not eating the same chocolate or drinking the same beer, but you’re not addressing the core of your emotional issue either.

A lot of the time autistic people will just tell you the truth and not hide it between the dumb bullshit “niceties” or whatever. I don’t think I’m autistic but I sure AF prefer direct communication to having to read minds or have a crystal clear understanding of all the intricasies of a culture.

- Comment on should I go back to my old job now that several people, some of them more knowledgeable than me have told me they don't understand my decision to quit it? 2 months ago:
Essentially what everyone else in this thread has said already but mental health > money/career prestige IMO.
In my line of work I constantly get told I’m underutilized and people always tell me I should be x or y. The thing is x and y do not align with my morals and I know I would be miserable in those jobs. I know I’d be very good at them and I understand people think they’re giving me a compliment, but I have always just wanted to have a job where I could pay my bills (which I can right now) and not have my career consume my life (which I do right now). If I went into one of the other types of jobs, the likelihood that my work/life balance would be skewed is high, or I’d be put into a position in my work where I’m enacting things that I am not comfortable with. I made my decision for myself, and if I want to “waste” my skills, that’s my fucking choice and they need to leave me tf alone.
Anyway, all that to say, fuck those guys and fuck the capitalistic hierarchial bullshit that states that your job defines your worth. You do you.
- Comment on What's going on with Quentin Tarantino? 2 months ago:
If it’s a sexual thing that would normally require consent (like any other fetish), and Tarantino is using his power as director to persuade women actors to show their feet (e.g. Margaret Qualley), then yes, absolutely it is hurting someone and he is using his power to appease his fetish, which is gross. The fetish itself is not gross, idgaf if someone’s into feet, but it’s not okay to force others into your fetish.
- Comment on Whats a good and proper alternative google message thats clean but better with privacy? - for texting 2 months ago:
Im not sure about the ethics of this company, which is Australian based, but I’ve been using Textra for probably 10 years now. It does base off the base messenger app, so messages are still put through google but I’m not sure that any apps can avoid that.
Otherwise though it’s clean and customizable. Pretty basic features like blocking, group messaging, reactions all work. The thing I like best is you can compose a message and reply directly from the notification bar. I think it’s something like $3 to remove ads forever, I paid forever ago and haven’t had any issues transferring through phones.
- Comment on Finding people who vibe with you is so hard 3 months ago:
Omg try going to sapphic spaces. So much of the time the first few questions go far deeper than you’d even had time to ever think about before.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind, it’s just such a different experience to be at a bar and get random questions about what/when the last time you experienced joy or what you hope to achieve in life.
- Comment on Is there a word for when someone is not capable of, or doesn't try to understand verbal communication in a language, they are fluent in similar to functionally illiterate but for speech? 3 months ago:
I would still use illiterate in that case, and would argue that is the correct term at least according to Merriam Webster:
a : violating approved patterns of speaking or writing b : showing or marked by a lack of familiarity with language and literature
Or even just at its most basic:
having little or no education

- Comment on Native Americans? 3 months ago:
If I’m understanding what you’re trying to ask, yes, there are a lot of people with indigenous heritage especially in California/texas/etc (places that until the Mexican-American war belonged to mexico) and they’re now considered Latino (which I think is what you mean by “Hispanic”.
It should be noted that not all Latin American people are Hispanic (e.g. portuguese), yet many share similar cultures and looks because they are all descendents of indigenous peoples that were colonized.
It’s happening in the US to Native Americans that they’ll be confused for “illegal aliens”(I hate this term but it’s what they call them) and they’ll have their American identity questioned, simply because they look like Mexicans or other Latin American people because, like I said, we’ve all descended from the indigenous peoples of this continent.
Just as an FYI, many Latin American folks don’t like to be referred to ask Hispanic because a) not all are, and b) that is the name of the people that conquered us.
- Comment on How bad is it really to listen to music with headphones? My mom told me if I keep doing that I'd go deaf... Is that fearmongering? 3 months ago:
Yeah it’s possible, but what I remember from the other post is about her calling him a loser or useless or something along those lines, so I think she’s just very controlling.
- Comment on How bad is it really to listen to music with headphones? My mom told me if I keep doing that I'd go deaf... Is that fearmongering? 3 months ago:
I have you tagged from an older post and remember your mom saying some whack ass shit in another post you made. Headphones won’t make you deaf unless you’re absolutely blasting your music at full volume.
I hope you’re feeling better soon and not letting her shit get you down. You got this.
