- Comment on You can’t replace the battery in Lego’s Smart Bricks — and many of its sensors aren’t available yet 3 days ago:
Okay, but my 20+ year old Lego still work today. Can I expect this e-waste to perform the same for my grandchildren as it would today?
- Comment on Gen Z males twice as likely as baby boomers to believe wives should obey husbands 1 week ago:
Here is the article from Kings College with a link to the full results:
kcl.ac.uk/…/almost-a-third-of-gen-z-men-agree-a-w…
I do believe that some countries are skewing the results, but the ratios across the board are worrying.
Though this could be due to the phrasing of questions. “Do you define yourself as a feminist?” Is a question that by its very nature is going to skew towards a negative result. I personally hold very strong feminist values and promote them openly, but would still struggle to agree that I ‘define’ myself as feminist.
- Comment on Device that can extract 1,000 liters of clean water a day from desert air revealed by 2025 Nobel Prize winner 2 weeks ago:
Do you think they are condensing 1000L of water to then just splash it on the ground where it was farmed? That water is going to people (or more likely companies) that are going to leave the ecosystem.
- Comment on Device that can extract 1,000 liters of clean water a day from desert air revealed by 2025 Nobel Prize winner 2 weeks ago:
I would think that ripping 1000L of water out of an environment in a day is going to have more immediate impacts than you eventually pissing on a cactus is going to fix…
Sure, the water isn’t “destroyed”, but it is being removed from an ecosystem that has evolved to use every last bit of water it can find to survive. It may not be immediately obvious, but it sounds just as damaging as removing 1000L of water a day from a lake and thinking the ecosystem will be fine because you’re going to sweat next to the dry lakebed.
- Comment on Xbox Co-founder Says Microsoft is Quietly Sunsetting the Platform 2 weeks ago:
It won’t be GTA6. It will be an exclusive title like a rebooted Halo or Gears of War. They can’t risk losing the money on GTA when people just go to PS5 and buy the game outright there.
- Comment on Judge scolds Mark Zuckerberg's team for wearing Meta glasses to social media trial 3 weeks ago:
If I were to walk into the courtroom with a go-pro strapped to my head, would I be clear because the camera is off and probably not recording?
These glasses are never advertised for how good the glasses aspect of the product is, but for their ability to record hands free image and video. The product is primarily for filming, and Facebook knows this.
- Comment on Judge scolds Mark Zuckerberg's team for wearing Meta glasses to social media trial 3 weeks ago:
They were wearing glasses with the camera literally built into them. Anywhere they look they are pointing a camera.

100% hot by what understanding? If I set my oven to 100F, the peak of heat by this memes reckoning, that roast chicken is going to kill my family.
If I run a warm bath at 50F, the medium-est of heats, My testicles are going to implode faster than a billionaire in a homemade submarine when they touch the water.
If we are talking human comfort, then 50F is also way too cold to be considered “50% hot”.
- Comment on Melbourne goes from among the most to least expensive capital cities 1 month ago:
Is “new phones” the modern “avocado toast”?
A lot of the younger generation has given up on home ownership. If they saved their ‘shiny phone’ money, it still wouldn’t put a scratch on the increasing price of buying property. The phone might not be a sound financial decision, but it’s the only joy and control some people can get.
And coming from a ‘young’ guy in IT with a 5 year old phone (that replaced his 10 year old phone when it completely carked it): it’s not the phone that’s making it hard for me to buy a house.
- Comment on Melbourne goes from among the most to least expensive capital cities 1 month ago:
You understand that buying a house requires good credit and a sizeable deposit? Both of which are things that many Australians are struggling to earn with the increase in rent and cost of basic needs.
If it were easy to “pay their own mortgage”, don’t you think more people would be doing that?
Even the people with deposits and pre-approved loans are struggling to find homes when well established slum-lords can outbid them by 100k on even the saddest 1x1.
- Comment on US | Renee Nicole Good said ‘I’m not mad at you’ before ICE agent shot her, video shows 2 months ago:
Hypothetically, what actions would make shooting a civilian in the head acceptable?
Because you say it can’t be morally justified, but seem really keen to move blame away from the murderer and onto the woman who was surrounded by armed men.
- Comment on US | Renee Nicole Good said ‘I’m not mad at you’ before ICE agent shot her, video shows 2 months ago:
Pretty bold move to have all the doors locked and then erratically maneuver away.
And for these actions she deserved to be shot in the head by the gestapo.

I don’t remember Wacom scraping the internet and stealing artists’ entire portfolios in order to power their tablets.
I don’t recall anyone’s job being replaced by a drawing tablet.
- Comment on Larian announce plans to let folks ask anything about their generative AI use, asserting "a lot has become lost in translation" 2 months ago:
[…] backlash against his assertions regarding Larian’s use of genAI “to explore ideas, flesh out PowerPoint presentations, develop concept art and write placeholder text”
All of these tasks can be done by a human using tools that existed before generative AI started to rub its cock and balls on everything.
You can say that something has been “lost in translation”, but if you have AI anywhere near concept art, you are diminishing the work of actual artists.
- Comment on Leaked plan to limit blocking of abortion on moral grounds 2 months ago:
When my wife and I were planning a family, we were sent to a fertility specialist at a hospital named after some saint or another. We asked all the questions we could and got lots of good advice. Then we innocently asked: what if the pregnancy is not viable? If there is a risk to my wife’s life, or we become aware that the baby would be born with a life-limiting issue?
The doctor got all clammed up and said we would have to seek advice from another hospital if that wound up being the case.
If my wife were at risk of death, or if our child would be born with their organs on the outside and half a brain with a life expectancy of a week, these self-righteous assholes would tell us to go elsewhere.
We did not return to that specialist. For all their preaching, they do not care about the lives of their patients and it shocks me that they can just decide that you don’t get to have healthcare because they think it’s a sin.
- Comment on the game "Horses" now barred on Steam, Epic and Humble Bundle 3 months ago:
Not arguing the effectiveness of drumming up drama to sell your game, but they have also lost the accessibility of three major platforms in doing so.
- Comment on the game "Horses" now barred on Steam, Epic and Humble Bundle 3 months ago:
The response said “no CSAM”.
If they had to scratch their heads trying to figure out what parts of the game needed to change to not include allusions to that, then they have bigger problems than not releasing on Steam.
- Comment on the game "Horses" now barred on Steam, Epic and Humble Bundle 3 months ago:
The game company seems to have thought that they could drum up sales on other platforms by making this a media thing. Based on the additional platforms pulling out, it might have backfired. They could have let their little horse-porn game quietly release on every platform but Steam and made enough to get by. Instead they drew attention to themselves.
- Comment on the game "Horses" now barred on Steam, Epic and Humble Bundle 3 months ago:
This is false.
eurogamer.net/its-extremely-frustrating-and-also-…
They submitted to steam, who asked for a preliminary build of the game (one would assume due to concerns about the content). The build provided included a small child reading a naked man like a horse.
Steam denied the game based on the inclusion of CSAM, and advised the devs directly of this decision in what the devs call “an automated email”, as if steam is out there personally hand writing rejection letters for every failed game out there.
The devs claim to have changed the scene, but it seems that Steam has a zero-tolerance policy on games that feature CSAM. And, I mean, Fair.
- Comment on What game is a guilty pleasure of yours? 3 months ago:
As a kid I picked up VIII before VII (thanks to demo discs) and it has always been my favourite FF game despite its predecessor’s huge shadow. Learning all of the quirks of the games systems felt really rewarding, though I can understand why it didn’t appeal to many.

I have been wondering where the “Elon paid these accounts” has come from. It does not seem to be reported on anywhere from a cursory search, but it’s being attached to this story like gospel. As if the actual story isn’t horrifying enough.
It really makes it evident that people are vulnerable to manipulation by social media regardless of their political standing.

I was going to make a joke about needing to buy a $1000 iphone every 6 months to save the economy, but then I went to the apple site to make sure I wasn’t being hyperbolic…
Christ on a fucking cracker! the latest iPhone can cost up to $3,800 in my local currency! Just fucking blow my brains out, the world is cooked. Bury me with my 5 year old phone, it’s still got a few years left in it I reckon.

How fucking ridiculous is it that this needs to be a step? If I tell a company to keep its grubby hands out of my shit, that should be final. No need to double check that google didn’t do a little oopsie-woopsie and leave those options on as a little treat for later.
Every other day there is something like this, and I am getting real fucking tired.

- Comment on What's a recent game you've tried playing that isn't worth the hype? 4 months ago:
Agreed. I have bounced off this game a few times for similar reasons. For a game that is about a cyberpunk future, it felt so much like a gta clone. Having played the ttrpgs, I think I just have a different version of the world in my head, and the games version just feels off.
- Comment on Why all the free-stuff Facebook groups you’re part of just changed their name 4 months ago:
The “Buy Nothing Project”, a group that started the fad, is asking Facebook to take down groups using their name.
The “project” makes money off buy-nothing exchanges through their app.
