How did you find a video of me with my cat??
- Comment on Is there a way to filter news on lemmy 5 days ago:
Aggressively block every community that has to do with news or has news posted to it. Then, if you’re on a mobile app that supports keyword filtering, aggressively filter out every word of news you don’t want to see. Then aggressively block users if they post or comment news you don’t want to see. After doing that for a few weeks or months you’ll start to see a normal newsfeed. But Lemmy is nearly unusable without it.
This is the strategy I use to avoid contact with a people group from a specific shithole country and it seems to work decent. Although there’s always posts that sneak through the cracks.

I’ve never felt the need to go 4k either. I’m totally content to buy 1080p 144hz+ monitors for $100.

Oof. I may never recover from this one.
- Comment on GOG job listing for a Senior Software Engineer notes "Linux is the next major frontier" 1 week ago:
There’s no push back from the developers at my company or the developers that I interact with. We have been embracing it for the use cases that AI is good at. There is lots of manual effort that us software developers don’t like doing that AI automates easily. I believe the mass layoffs that companies are doing are using AI as a convenient excuse in uncertain economic conditions.
- Comment on GOG job listing for a Senior Software Engineer notes "Linux is the next major frontier" 1 week ago:
I never said anything about artists. I don’t think AI has much use in artistic endeavors. I’m talking about jobs.
- Comment on GOG job listing for a Senior Software Engineer notes "Linux is the next major frontier" 1 week ago:
I’m not arguing that using AI makes me a software developer. I’m saying that as a software developer, I seek to use the best tools for the job, just like any other job.

Waiting for this comment lmao
- Comment on GOG job listing for a Senior Software Engineer notes "Linux is the next major frontier" 1 week ago:
Anti AI arguments are always good for a laugh. I enjoy using the best tools for my job. Sometimes the best tool for software development is AI. Sometimes AI does a bad job and other tools work best. What does that make me? A software developer, I suppose.
- Comment on GOG job listing for a Senior Software Engineer notes "Linux is the next major frontier" 1 week ago:
Sounds like a regular software development job where instead of being a Luddite, people use the latest technology for the job.

I hope to one day.
- Comment on Ugh... I forgot to pack a towel 1 week ago:
Make sure you remember your lock combo before locking your belongings up when you take a shower. I came back to my locker and couldn’t open it once. No phone, no glasses, just flip flops in a towel. Not a fun experience. Thankfully I remembered the code before too embarrassingly long.

I wish Lemmy was independent of Americans.

In our region these exist but are optional. Not everyone has a good internet connection or a quiet place to study at home.

I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan of that era/style of RPGs but To The Moon is an absolutely fantastic game.

My laptop came preloaded with Linux.
- Comment on Does anyone else feel like "analog" stuff is more "tangible"? 2 weeks ago:
Digital with proper backups will last longer than most non-archival analog media. But there’s always weaknesses to every medium. Fire and flood will destroy analog media. Even just humidity, mold, sunlight, too cold, too hot, everyday conditions can damage analog media.

The only reason I have heard of this game is that people’s GPUs were getting fried when they ran the game.
- Comment on An all in one PC is less all in one than a laptop (it's only one less part than a regular PC) 3 weeks ago:
Even if it comes together in the box, it’s still not all in one. It’s three separate parts that you have to connect together. If I buy a knife and a Roomba and they come in the same box, I don’t get an all in one murderbot. But a laptop is truly an all in one.

All my TV shows and movies, I don’t bother. But my 150gb mp3 library I keep backed up because it’s much smaller and I know some of that stuff is not readily available online.
- Comment on Removing the auto-off timer from my coffee machine 3 weeks ago:
This is probably a bad idea, because the timer relay circuit probably has some additional safety features in it such as temperature limits, along with the device never being designed to run indefinitely.
If I had to guess, the heating element is controlled by the relay (big black cube). I would either bypass the output or bypass the input signal. The relay pinout can be easily found online on sites like this.
