I dumped Windows about 18 months ago, before their recall and copilot BS. There are many Linux distros out there. They are free and there is almost nothing you can do with Windows that can’t be done on Linux. These days, most games for Windows can be played on Linux using Proton and Wine. There is no reason to keep Windows and plenty of reasons to dump Windows, like not wanting your personal data stolen or monitored by corporations and governments.

CachyOS rocks. I settled on it after trying many Linux distros and CachyOS won. All distros had pros and cons CachyOS was easy to update. Easy to install and remove programs without the terminal. Proton and Wine run great on it so most of my Steam and Epic games are playable and all media types play without tinkering. That was an issue with Fedora.
- Comment on Liquid Trees 1 week ago:
You see, trees get in the way when we want to put down more asphalt to make more room for cars. We need more lanes for cars to park in and more parking lots for cars to park in. The goal is to turn the city into a place devoid of anything but asphalt. Then with no access to dirt to grow food or water to keep them alive, the people will be 100% dependent on their capitalist overlords. Everyone wins.
- Comment on Does the average person have no critical thinking? 1 week ago:
There is no greater enemy to logic, common sense and critical thinking than religion. Religion punishes skepticism and logic. In many places you can still be killed for blasphemy. When children discover Santa isn’t real, this should be an opportunity for them to break free of the gaslighting of their family religion, instead many parents double down on the gaslighting. When people are too brainwashed to accept something as simple as “fairy tale creatures are not real” their brains become mush. What would you say if I told you, yesterday on my way home I crossed a footbridge and I saw a man walking on the water. Not only that, the man was a zombie. I saw him raise another man from the dead. We should probably be getting ready for a zombie apocalypse? You would immediately think i was either insane or making some kind of joke. And if you didn’t, I would ask you to give me all your money for my new church.
- Comment on U.S. Secretary of Commerce says the ‘new model’ is factory jobs for life—for you, your kids, and your grandkids 1 week ago:
Why is your default mode of thinking of these farms that they should operate under capitalism and exploitation? Why guillotine the capitalists and take their golf courses and estates to make community farms if we’re just going to continue capitalism?
- Comment on U.S. Secretary of Commerce says the ‘new model’ is factory jobs for life—for you, your kids, and your grandkids 1 week ago:
but why aren’t Dems or the media screaming about this
Because the Dems and media are MAGA too. There is no left.
- Comment on U.S. Secretary of Commerce says the ‘new model’ is factory jobs for life—for you, your kids, and your grandkids 1 week ago:
I have a better idea. I call it guillotine justice. Everyone finds the wealthiest 100 people in their county and introduces them to the guillotine of justice. The homes, land and wealth of the recently deceased wealthy bastards become communal property. Many of the rich bastards own hundreds of houses and thousands of acres of land. We don’t need to worry about grocery bills if we have community farms. The rent would go down dramatically with all the free houses available and rich people will be selling or giving away their excess wealth to keep from being picked in the next round of guillotine justice.

- Comment on Trump administration cannot use Alien Enemies Act to deport Venezuelans, judge says 1 week ago:
You can’t use it to deport anyone. The Alien enemies act is null and void. The 14th amendment and the Civil Rights Act make the use of the Alien Enemies Act illegal and unconstitutional. To use the Alien Enemies Act requires that you alter how the laws are enforced according to race, ethnicity, or national origin of the persons being targeted for enforcement. It was originally used to remove people of French origin because the Federalist party didn’t want immigrants from France or Americans of French decent supporting the Democratic-Republican party. (which is now the fake two party system we have)

- Comment on If I snapped you back in time 650 years right this very second, how would you use your current knowledge to succeed? 2 weeks ago:
650 years ago steel was pretty common. Copper, silver and gold were used for coins and jewelry. Finding the supplies to make iron rods and copper wire wouldn’t bee the hardest part. The hard part would be making a battery. I should look up the Baghdad Battery again to see how it was made. I would probably also have to worry about being burned at the stake for practicing alchemy.

People were mining, smelting, and forging many metals 650 years ago. The forge isn’t a complicated device. A coal fire with forced air to raise the temperature. Pressurized air can be taken from falling water. There are always bubbles. Leeskalnin’s PMH is really simple. If you have copper, silver or aluminum wire and Iron, you can make a permanent magnet. Moving copper, aluminum or silver through a magnetic field gives you electricity. Bees are not too hard to keep. Make a wood house with a small entrance for them and bait the inside with some beeswax and honeycomb and you can get them to move in. I worked at a fireworks factory a long time ago. Gunpowder is not hard to make. Finding potassium nitrate would be the hard part.

I would use the superstitions of the people of the area to scare them away from me and my space. I would build a Catalan forge and a smelter that is powered by falling water. I would make gunpowder but not share the recipe. I would also distill alcohol for sale and for hygiene. I would use Leedskalnins PMH to create permanent magnets and use them to make electricity. Electric fences also help keep the superstitious barbarians away. I would also be a beekeeper.

Could they electroplate the material with nickle? Nickle Iron batteries are the best, but nickle needs a lot of surface area inside the battery.

Never tried that. I will look for that setting and see what it does next time I need to download something.

Download something and look at the columns in the torrent client. You will see download and upload speeds. While you are downloading, you are also sharing the same file with others who are downloading it.

Assuming no VPN is being used, to get your IP while you are seeding, they would need to be connected and downloading. When downloading a torrent you are also sharing the parts you have already downloaded with other torrent users. The agent of the copyright holder has to give the copyrighted material away for free in order to see the IP address of the seeders. By giving it away for free while in the employ of the copyright holder, they are authorizing the sharing of the material.

I won’t use a phone company that listens to my calls and criticizes me for who I speak with. I won’t use an internet provider that monitors what I download or shares that info with third parties. The only other way to catch someone downloading, is if an agent of the copyright holder is uploading the torrent file.
