Watching how quickly all these companies crumble, it really is astonishing the Obama and Clinton didn’t take on Fox News for all it’s bullshit.

I had an idea for a story about Steampunk Radical Reconstruction in 1880s and some of the characters I imagined looked like him, but with a top hat.

It’s almost impressive how quickly the whole of the business world capitulated to Donald Trump.

I’d say it’s also a problem that the sort of people who use the Internet to find people to beat up are idiots, so even if they aren’t going out of their way to victimize minorities, odds are they’ll just beat up some random person.

Firefox changed terms. Proton is just run by a twat.

I’ve definitely thought about trying to get back onto Reddit once I get a computer they don’t recognize.

Between this, Proton and Firefox’s change of terms, most of the advice I’ve seen on tech that protects your privacy seems like it’s going the way of the dino.

My general dislike for modern conservatism to the side, it does reflect a wider issue with lemmy. There is no diversity of opinion on anything. There are no niche communities. Either you like the political and tech subs and the meme subs which are, at a mininum, 60% political, or there really is nothing for you here.
The manga and anime subs can be good for keeping up with new releases, but not there’s next to no actual discussion.

While I have no issue with Republicans being shunned for their unashamed fascism, it does mean threads like this are essentially pointless because almost none will actually participate and the ones who do will be downvoted into oblivion.

Everything Donald Trump has ever done or ever will do, is a grift.

One of the things that has continuously confounded me about Musk’s veneration by the modern American fascist is that one of the main accomplishments they hail him as a genius for are “his” advancements in electric cars.
Which are necessitated by Global Warming.
Which they do not believe in.

Unless there’s a coup when the Supreme Court finds against Trump and he ignores them and Republicans keep Congress from holding him accountable the only way the Court will let them.
- Comment on Bad UX is keeping the majority of people away from Lemmy 1 month ago:
Reddit being popular is keeping the majority of people away from Lemmy.
When you get right down to it: people don’t care that Reddit is selling their information, that the site itself is a piece of garbage, that running the site requires a bunch of no-life weirdos whose numbers will only increase going forward and whose power will likewise, or that the design actively encourages bots to the point of disincentivizing actual human beings from using it.
They want their memes, they want their news, they want their niche little interest subs and they want their porn. The simple fact is that lemmy is a smaller version of Reddit with fewer options and to the majority of people who don’t care about their data or the objectively dogshit running of the site, there is no reason to cross over to Lemmy.
Until Reddit takes a Musk-type turn into being totally unuseable, lemmy will only see a trickle of users who are burned by Reddit.

As someone who only recently joined Lemmy (as a result of getting booted from Reddit) it ultimately comes down to it being bigger.
You can talk regularly about series have been over for a decade. Just about any niche interest has a vibrant community. The reality is the average person doesn’t care about it selling our data, putting a fingerprint on our gear one step above spyware, it being overrun with bots, every level of administration being dominated by megalomaniacs. If you just want to look through some stuff you’re interested in while you’re bored, it serves a purpose that lemmy unfortunately can’t at it’s size.
