Probably more floundering. An EA exec told them at one point that their demo was crap (and based on word from other devs, he was probably right), so they reintroduced flight, which IMO was one of the best aspects of the game. EA didn’t force a new story or concept on Bioware, though. All that was Bioware’s own fault between lack of leadership and staff burnout.
A long read, but this article goes pretty in-depth on what happened during the development of Anthem: kotaku.com/how-biowares-anthem-went-wrong-1833731…

Maybe. Maybe not. Some Amazon exec thinks it will, though.

This isn’t for Fallout fans. It’s for people who watch Netflix/Prime and saw the Fallout show. Reality shows are pretty popular on these platforms (Beast Games is #2 on Prime right now) so that’s who they’re going after.

A reality show vault? Not even Vault-Tec had any experiments that were that cruel.

- Comment on Dragon Age veteran says scrapped Anthem Next "could have been" up there with No Man's Sky's legendary turnaround 5 days ago:
“Anthem actually had the code for local servers running in a dev environment right up until a few months before launch,” Darrah continued. “I don’t know that they still work, but the code is there to be salvaged and recovered. The reason you do this, it pulls away the costs of maintaining this game. So rather than having dedicated servers that are required for the game to run, you let the server run on one of the machines that’s playing the game.” This, he added, could have worked alongside an additional move to add AI party members to the game, allowing people to play it like a single-player game.
Ok, this is even more heartbreaking now. I loved the concept of Anthem and had a fair bit of fun with the game in its current (prior to shutdown) state and was hopeful that the “Next” project would overhaul it into something great. I still don’t blame EA for their decisions in this case; Bioware fucked around for way too long during development and the overhaul project was most likely seen as too little, too late… or too expensive.

An item that is sold to you at a loss in hopes that you buy more profitable stuff from them to make up for said loss. Game consoles are usually sold at a loss in order to get people into their ecosystems, so they can buy things like games and subscription services, which are more profitable.

I’ve been feeling this way, too. Most shows with dumbass teenage main characters are a pass for me, nowadays. I think it’s mainly because I’m getting older and they aren’t very relatable anymore.

Considering Skyrim Special Edition is handled like a different version of Skyrim, I would completely expect this version of Fallout 4 to break mods.

I’ve been watching through old Gundam shows recently. While some haven’t aged well IMO, others are still really good. Zeta and the 8th MS Team are two examples.

It doesn’t have to be AI. It’s probably more trend chasing. Anime A becomes super popular, so other series try to emulate it. As far as sound effects, the studios are likely pulling from the same sfx library.

- Comment on Disgrace to you disgrace to your family disgrace to your cow 5 months ago:
Yeah, that can be an issue. It’s likely due to studios not paying much for Eng VA work, so the talent pool is small.
- Comment on Disgrace to you disgrace to your family disgrace to your cow 5 months ago:
I’ll say it: I prefer dubbed over subbed. English voice acting has been getting much better over the past several years (when studios want to pay for it, at least), and honestly, I get tired of reading all the subtitles in every show I watch. That said, I still watch more subbed than dubbed, since it’s more available.
Side note - sub watchers who think they’re superior need to get over themselves. Let people enjoy things however they want. Yes, I know this is a meme, but I’ve also met plenty who seriously think this way.

I was hoping EA would greenlight the overhaul project, as I also really liked the flight and combat. I understand why they didn’t, but it still sucks to see this.

i would consider that to be part of find an employer who cares less about the corpo garbage, but yes, employers who actually care about their employees do exist.
- Comment on How dare you 6 months ago:
Hiring managers are well aware people’s primary motivation for work is pay and that the question is bullshit, but are directed by their superiors to find applicants who are more enthusiastic to work for them, as they’re likely to work harder and for less. Look at the video games industry as a prime example. Many many studios and publishers hire developers and pay them beans because people are lined up around the block to work their “dream job” in the games industry. Those same developers could likely get a job in some other industry making software for something boring, but for far greater pay, benefits, work/life balance, etc.
I am in agreement that not being able to be more upfront with employment motivations is troublesome, but our choices are either play the game, find an employer who cares less about the corpo garbage, or self-employ.
