- Comment on How do some communities get like 50 members minutes after its creation? 10 hours ago:
It’s not necessarily pro homophobia. If it is, people might join in order to report hateful content when it appears.
- Comment on How do some communities get like 50 members minutes after its creation? 10 hours ago:
New communities show up on the front page of the web site, so there is instant exposure as soon as it is created. I set up a community about seagulls, and it’s got 147 subscribers, despite only having about 6 posts. Lemmy is still small though that you can be a big fish in a little pond.
- Comment on I made a killer wort :( 1 day ago:
Silly question, but you did actually include malts which produce sugars that can ferment? I brew by the seat of my pants quite a lot, but I always take an OG reading.

Much better than those visible radio waves.
- Comment on Jack Dorsey and Elon Musk would like to ‘delete all IP law’ | TechCrunch 1 week ago:
No it doesn’t. The GPL provides a license to copy it as long as certain conditions are met. Availability has nothing to do with it.
- Comment on Jack Dorsey and Elon Musk would like to ‘delete all IP law’ | TechCrunch 1 week ago:
The GPL relies on copyright law to keep software free.
- Comment on Tax cut for Musk, Bezos and other tech billionaires on the table, Starmer confirms 2 weeks ago:
That’s good. They could do with a bit more money. If we had it we’d just spend it on food or some such recklessness.
- Comment on Google shows new AR glasses, VR headset at TED 2 weeks ago:
Seems we are in a VR headset decade rather than a 3d TV one.
- Comment on Brewing with "High Voltage" yeast 2 weeks ago:
This one started off at 1.054 and ended at about 1.008. It’s almost certainly a strain of kveik. I’ve used it before and it gives a very clean flavour.

- Comment on 3D-printed cam gears from various materials - will they work? 2 weeks ago:
I can answer this without watching the video: it’ll work for a certain amount of time before it doesn’t, and then your engine explodes.
- Comment on Online ‘Pedophile Hunters’ Are Growing More Violent — and Going Viral: With the rise of loosely moderated social media platforms, a fringe vigilante movement is experiencing a dangerous evolution. 3 weeks ago:
Have they tried looking in churches and the Republican party?
- Comment on UK: Couple arrested and shut in cell after complaining about daughter's school on WhatsApp. 3 weeks ago:
They had already been banned from school grounds, which doesn’t happen because you are being too calm and reasonable.
- Comment on Do you think Social Media is just exaggerated as being placed of being the source of all problems? 4 weeks ago:
Social media, like most things in life, has its good and bad sides. Places like twitter and Facebook have definitely been moved to the “bad” side of things through the use of an algorithm to curate the user’s experience and steer them towards socially harmful content. It’s much more difficult to do this on federated SM because anti social messaging doesn’t get amplified.
It’s not a panacea, and there will be attempts to corrupt it, but federated SM does give me hope that we can escape the rabbit hole of billionaire bro psychopaths.

Musk will always side with the fascist or the dictator.

On the other hand, there is something to be said for having a small test before joining. I remember Usenet before and after it became easier to use.

- Comment on Brother accused of locking down third-party printer ink cartridges via forced firmware updates, removing older firmware versions from support portals 1 month ago:
Could have been a Friday afternoon one. The one I have is a workhorse that could print on bark using toner made of charcoal and dust.

Oh FFS. Not Brother as well. I used to recommend them to everyone. Who is left with unshittified printers?

It’s not that bad yet. FF works on pretty much any site that’s not demonstrating some sort of bleeding edge fuckery. I haven’t seen a “best viewed in Chrome” for a decade or two.
Hopefully this sort of enshittification will drive more people to use other browsers.
