I’ve used it a lot to save stuff I want to read or watch later, and then always forget about it lol.

You can save posts and comments. Not sure how other apps do it since I mostly use Voyager but it’s pretty obvious in that app.
Sounds like they do save which is pretty cool. Will be sad to lose my post and comment history, but at least I have my saved posts and comments.

Is yours one? I saw other people suggest Lemmy.zip, mander I think is one, and lemdr.oid or something like that.
The problem is that they tend to be smaller, which means harder to find.

This suuuucks. We need another big, general instance that doesn’t defed everyone. But I get it, being an admin sounds like a lot of work or I would do it lol. Plus I don’t have pace for a server around here. Or do most admins just buy space from the cloud?

Reminds me of that great joke -
A KGB agent and CIA agent meet up in a bar.
“I have to admit, I’m always so impressed by Soviet propaganda. You really know how to get people worked up,” the CIA agent says. “Thank you,” the KGB says. “We do our best but truly, it’s nothing compared to American propaganda. Your people believe everything your state media tells them.” The CIA agent drops his drink in shock and disgust. “Thank you friend, but you must be confused… There’s no propaganda in America.”

Holy shit actual media criticism and analysis on North Korea. Never thought I’d see this day.
The little clip with them commenting on news stories commenting about them was hilarious yet insightful, so I definitely have to watch the full documentary they’re referencing, especially if it’s just the 20 minute video you linked.

Eh, the community is huge on Reddit so clearly the fans exist (and I’m one but just took a big social media break for awhile so that didn’t help). Lemmy just needs more people with more diverse interests.

The rest of the world needs to learn from the US’s failure like this ASAP. I think Europe might already be doomed judging by the way the UK and Germany are going, but others might be able to swerve to avoid a fascist future with the right moves.

Just wanted to give an update that I started learning Linux. It’s been a pain in the ass to look up every basic thing I could do in Windows without thinking, but I’m sure I’ll get it down with enough use and googling for every error. Only been using it a couple days so far, but already starting to prefer the console over the UI for some things, thanks to the ability to quickly repeat old commands with the up and down arrow keys. It’s kind of exciting, like I’m starting the first steps to join the Linux club I see so much on Lemmy.

What’s OVH SAS?
I work in software but wouldn’t mind getting better at the administrative side of things myself. It means I probably have to learn Linux better, though.

Exactly. I 100% agree with that sentiment.
- Comment on PieFed, a FOSS Feed Aggregator alternative to Lemmy, but faster 6 months ago:
Two of the developers are scary communists. And no, I don’t think software can be right wing or left wing. Maybe if it’s centralized, like X, but the developers of Lemmy can’t interfere with Lemmy servers they don’t admin, and it’s open source (lots of other people contribute to the Lemmy source code at this point and so would be able to spot things added in).
Personally, I think the right way to advertise other competitors on the fediverse isnt to fear monger about the developers, but to say what features they have that might be good. Also, it is nice to have competitors, so also just to advertise based on the availability of alternative options.

- Comment on USA | Trump speaks with Putin and advises him not to escalate Ukraine war – report 6 months ago:
Maybe I misinterpreted your comment, but I thought you were saying that Trump basically purposefully leaked the comments to sound tough on Putin, but wasn’t actually planning on following through at all, and instead was planning on actually helping Putin instead but purposefully didn’t leak that part. I compared it to a similar recent situation.

Reminds me of the leaks of when Biden wanted to sound tough on Netanyahu. Trump just wants to sound tough on Putin for a bit.

They’re different people arguing different things lol. The truth is there are a lot of people who want to be heard, so they play up Harris not listening to them and losing because of it. The truth is probably more depressing in that it didn’t matter.
