It’s been interesting to watch go by as someone without a horse in the race. I’ve never had any interest in GTA games.

Oh really? That’s good then

The one in thinking of most recently was Avowed. Really didn’t care for the writing in that one. It felt like a big step down to me. Ironically the action game parts felt better than previous obsidian games I’d played.

Yeah I would agree with that last part, though I still haven’t loved any of obsidian’s recent work either.

Tbh I don’t think obsidian is that good anymore either.
- Comment on Nvidia DLSS 5 releases this week with NBA 2K27, so the AI yassification filter's busy beautifying basketballers early doors 1 week ago:
Yeah that last part is what I’m getting at. You explained it much better though! 🙂

See that last bit is what I wonder though. If you run the same prompt through ai it’ll give you a different result every time. Not to mention since it’s a game the input will be changing constantly per player…

The biggest question I have about it is whether it’s consistent or not. Will each player get their own different ai filter over the top, or did they somehow “bake it on” so it’s always the same result?
- Comment on As Peak gets its final big update, developers Landfall and Aggro Crab explain why it isn't a "forever game" 4 weeks ago:
I kind of hate that this needs explaining. Continued support is an awesome feature of modern gaming, but devs also should be allowed to move on to new things

I came back after trying it a bit in early access a year ago. Definitely feels way more fleshed out and I’m really enjoying it so far
- Comment on Linux creator Linus Torvalds puts foot down on anti-AI comments 1 month ago:
Yeah agreed. It’s pretty wild what the tech can do at the best of times, but it’s just way too half baked on many levels right now to rely on.
- Comment on Linux creator Linus Torvalds puts foot down on anti-AI comments 1 month ago:
AI is a tool, just like other tools we use. And it’s clearly a useful one.
It may not have been that “clearly” even just a year ago, but it’s no longer in question today.
This is such a massive red flag comment. If anything it’s become increasingly clear in the last year how problematic the tech is…
He follows that up by saying people should make the tools help maintainers not harm them, but suggests no means to do so. This is so blasé and hand wavy, especially when he’s responding to people complaining about how it’s making their jobs harder. “Just use the tools better”. Gee, thanks Linus.
- Comment on Id Software co-founder John Carmack "can’t muster anger or outrage" over Xbox gutting the Doom studio, but does say it'll "dampen the mood of the founder reunion" 2 months ago:
Its all so misanthropic. Not once does he actually justify whether they needed to make more money to be profitable. It’s just flippantly assumed that they would have needed to double revenue to be worth keeping. That sounds like a made up number.
- Comment on "I could feel myself coming apart at the seams": Suicide Squad leads on almost leaving the games industry after its failure 2 months ago:
I’ve had a moment like this even doing indie game dev as a passion project. There’s a never ending flood of marketing and sales advice for game devs, and it can really suck the fun out of a project if you start to obsess over doing everything the “right way”.
Unfortunately marketing is a necessity, and if you need to make money from a game you have to try and make a product, not just a piece of art. I think for most creatives they want the business side to stay as backseat as possible, though.
