- Comment on Why won't this slice? 2 months ago:
Cura can ignore what’s below buildplate as long as part isn’t too big for X Y axes. For cutting this, I would use 3d builder. Very easy to use. Just open model, and go to modify to cut model
- Comment on Cheap but reliable external SSD for RPis 4 months ago:
I’m not 100% sure but this might also depend which OS you are running on your pi. Did change from SD card to SSD few years back for my home assistant setup (now running with a mini pc) at the time I went for a geekpi adapter (can’t recall exact model).
Try a quick ducduck search “sata adapter #yourOS#” and see if a list come up. Here is one for HA (but surely more models are compatible than the ones listed here) community.home-assistant.io/t/…/212763

I don’t see why you think those are web based, usually people run this at home but glad you find what you are looking for

As far as photo librabry, you can compare the different solutions at github.com/meichthys/foss_photo_libraries

I have nvme setup on my pi 4 (I know it’s overkill for that purpose but already had pi setup like this prior to klipper), that being said I will definitely look at getting one with communication control even if power never goes down for more than a couple of seconds
- Comment on Ender 3 having issues with text 5 months ago:
You definitely needs to calibrate your estep and flow rate as others mentioned. If numbers were correct then you might have a partial clog. If so, clean it and check Luke’s hotend fix on thingiverse/printable (really worth it). m.youtube.com/watch?v=7tCxO17XZtw
Under extrusion aside, you can get better text details by using a smaller nozzle as one issue for the text clarity is line width, while it isn’t ideal you can also try to set 0.30/0.35 line width with 0.4 nozzle.
Also, if you do plug in usb from your computer to printer (to calibrate estep), make sure to cover the 5v pin on usb cable with electrical tape. Otherwise you might wreck your printer mainboard. community.octoprint.org/t/…/13574
- Comment on Ender 3 having issues with text 5 months ago:
Just adding to your comment that if OP goes that route, he will need to cover 5v pin with some electrical tape on usb otherwise he will wreck is printer board. (Unless recent ender 3 have this issue fixed but I doubt)
- Comment on What specs should I look out for UPS 5 months ago:
Shouldn’t be an issue, power outage here are mostly about one second (5 at max) and even if my printer is being halted, my glass bed stick so much that my print don’t pop off by themselves, I always use a scraper even when completely cool down.
- Comment on What specs should I look out for UPS 5 months ago:
Actually I could even run Klipper on mini pc but would need a very long usb to reach printer and thought it wasn’t ideal. As for the mini pc, I’m running proxmox but I’m far from being an expert so not sure if I can manage CPU scaling.
- Comment on What specs should I look out for UPS 5 months ago:
Should have added in my post that power outage don’t last more than a few seconds so ups should be fine
- Comment on What specs should I look out for UPS 5 months ago:
“why are they separated”, not sure what you meant, mini pc is acting as a server for a few usage and pi is dedicated to klipper.
- Comment on What specs should I look out for UPS 5 months ago:
Yeah, I only care to keep the printer running for just a few seconds but thanks for the input

Relying on 4 nvme drive for low power isn’t ideal as nvme drive needs about twice more power compare to sata SSD.

- Comment on App Idea: Location History 8 months ago:
On your Xiaomi first time you launched app, you can determine wether you always allow or allow on prompt (but you should still be able to manage that setting afterwards). You also need to disable battery optimization for that app and set app to be able to auto launch in background. This is at least what I do with my home assistant app to determine GPS location in background (app record every 15mn) and no issues with battery draining.

- Comment on What would you like to see in a house IT setup? 8 months ago:
A complete and affordable setup that will merge anything you want inside a single app will be by using home assistant. But while it is much easier to setup and maintain than a few years ago, selling the house will require new owner to have a few tech knowledge. You also have to make sure that your setup is designed to be used by all family whatever there age and knowledge (and it isn’t always simple)
Describing everything available that would make it a perfect place will take a very very long comment but here are some hint, look at ethernet cameras instead of wifi, ZigBee and zwave instead of wifi for most of the devices as those protocols are designed for smart homes unlike wifi, use as less as possible cloud base solution.
As a starter, you can check for temperatures/humidity sensors, contact sensors for doors/windows, automated curtains, switches, presence detection, lights, leak detectors, weather station, energy monitoring,…
- Comment on My creality 4.2.7 board just crapped out. Suggestions for an upgrade? 9 months ago:
Not OP but have a question if you don’t mind as I just swapped to Klipper and everything isn’t clear yet.
When you say “due to lack of power…” isn’t klipper doing all the work meaning that board don’t need to process anything and is basically in a “reader” state?
- Comment on Looking on advice on how to print this case 11 months ago:
Professional printing services are usually expensive, might be better to buy a second hand printer if you already plan to get one. Don’t know the market in Japan but I guess they will charge you more than much more than 50€ and you can get a second hand printer which originally cost 400€ for maybe 150-200€.
Unlike a 1000€ printer, you will have a learning curve but you can get as good looking print as a 1000€ printer. Main difference is plug and play (yet still have to learn slicer settings and how each settings interact with each others) and printing speed.
Also, while you may choose from printing services what material to use, I ain’t sure you can tell them what settings to use. As they are a printing services, you shall only tell them what those stl are used for and they should adapt according to their knowledge because they are much more than filling to take into account like walls, infill type, layer thickness, printing speed, print orientation…
Pla should be fine except maybe for the part that goes around the cylinder (depending force that is applied to it and thickness of part). In this case, petg or abs might be better
Instead of printing services, another possibility is to check the different fab lab in Tokyo, contact them and see what they offer.
- Comment on Question about horizontal lines (gantry) 11 months ago:
I cannot see images (“these”), but if you are talking about some wheels, yes they should not be too tight neither too loose. Once tightened you should be able to turn them with your fingers without raising gantry but you should also feel friction.

- Comment on storing of filamenter bewteen prints 1 year ago:
In winter, you won’t need to care much as heating will help to keep low humidity, the rest of the year, I would say you can keep pla roll out about a week before storing it but personally (living in 60-85% humidity climate), I just let it out so I’m ready to print. If I start a print after about a week, stringing will likely appear but if stays out for about a month, filament will become brittle.
- Comment on First time in a while printing a temp tower, how am I doing? 1 year ago:
Even if it looks well sealed, it still could be humidity and popping sound usually means wet filament. That being said, you didn’t mentioned if it was pla/petg… Guessing it is pla due to the temp you are using but always best to mention it. Have you watched the print ? Did it actually change temp while printing? because between 190 and 220, there is usually more difference than what you have here, especially on the bridge part.
- Comment on Tearing my hair out over stringing with Klipper 1 year ago:
I think it is best to first print a temp tower then some retraction test where you would stick with same temperature and variates distance and speed. You can use tools here to make it simple. teachingtechyt.github.io/calibration.html
If after that, you still have stringing, best is to test a new spool (or dry your spool) as too much humidity in pla will give you stringing whatever settings you use
