Thank you. It does seem cool but I can’t really keep up. I appreciate the explanation. I really thought it was a fully workable de-bloated win11. Which it is, but I need long term installs. I learned a few things though! So not a waste.
If i could ever figure out how to run a windows app via VM. Seamless mode comes close but not quite enough.
Anyway thanks and I didn’t mean to be negative, just didn’t totally get it.

Neat. I tried this last night on my once top of the line machine (in 2012) because why not…
It didn’t upgrade my win10 install but at least it didn’t delete all my data. Maybe I goofed on that as I was tired.
I used the 23H2 iso but it installed 22H2.
I didn’t use the script, it picked up my existing valid key.
It fails to update. Perhaps that’s the point or bloat would come back?
But if it can’t update then what’s the point?
Again, might be my fault but I’m not really trusting this image yet. Not enough to reinstall and relicense my tools.
I use Linux where I can but I’m bound to some windows-only proprietary software. I do use a stripped down win10 VM for a lot of it but at least it updates.
Will update this comment if i find that I’m at fault.
- Comment on Ultraviolet light can kill almost all the viruses in a room. Why isn’t it everywhere? 9 months ago:
Thanks for reply but yeah we are in agreement. That’s why I quit using it like 2 decades ago. If it can destroy organic matter that obviously includes ours.
I was just curious on the quantity thing. A general air blown ozone generator will not hurt if at low power. It obviously won’t provide any benefits either. But for water it’s useful so was curious if you knew something i didn’t.
On topic - a powerful UV lamp (not something you’d want to hit your eyes) in your central AC is still very useful. Airborne stuff, mold spores, etc. at a minimum it keeps the coils clean.
- Comment on Ultraviolet light can kill almost all the viruses in a room. Why isn’t it everywhere? 9 months ago:
Can you elaborate a little more? I used to have an ozone generator but, and it’s been a long time, it seemed that at useful levels it would be dangerous but what are “small quantities”? I have however found them useful to be used at high power for a short time to clear a car or house of smoke of pet odor (unoccupied of course).
I use the pool ones to keep water tanks sterile with an ORP meter for control and that seems to work well but it is extremely corrosive. It breaks down really fast though so I don’t think it’s causing any harm… Is it?
- Comment on Walmart, Costco and other companies rethink self-checkout, some stores removing them 11 months ago:
It’s always the bagging thing that fails for me. I’m not the smartest person in the world but I can scan an item and place it in the bagging area. It’s kinda out of my hands at that point. Be it calibration or incorrect data sometimes it won’t recognize and after a couple attempts locks and some underpaid person has to come roll their eyes at me and swipe a card to let it go through.
I’ve probably just been unlucky and gave up 10yrs ago on that.
No they don’t train cashiers beyond what button to press. Produce is interesting. It’s been a while (love curbside service) since I’ve been in a grocery store but ours has tags on produce you show to a scale and it weighs it and prints out a sticker with a barcode.
And I just realized how abusable that is. I’m going shopping tomorrow!
Oh what’s the 4011 thing? Doesn’t ring a bell.
- Comment on Walmart, Costco and other companies rethink self-checkout, some stores removing them 11 months ago:
It’s funny how divided a topic this is.
Could just be my area but the machines always fail in some way or another.
Give me 10%off if I am doing the job of an absentee cashier… Always cool seeing many checkouts all decked out in gear with noone there to run them. Ever.
OR, even better, use some decades old tech and spend a penny to put RFID tags on everything so I can just run my cart through and verify the list of stuff and click Yes, No, Maybe.
Somewhat related… is it just me or are liquor stores the best at this? I never even stop moving and I’m out. Then i go next door to the pet store to grab some animal chow and I stand in line for 10mins because just one register of 6 is staffed.
At least we can order everything online for the most part now.

But coal workers are a bedrock of American ideals! We can’t take their jobs!
Is a /s needed? I don’t know anymore. Do people really enjoy being coal miners and want their children to follow that wonderful career? I can get a yes to that question but only from people who have no idea what that entails.
- Comment on Programmer tries to explain binary search to the police 11 months ago:
They don’t care really. As has been my experience anyway.
I once had my car window smashed, a mix of gear taken…some was expensive, some was personal to me. I felt violated. Called the police, explained, gave S/Ns to what I could, told them exactly who did it. He didn’t give a shit. Actually made me feel like I was wasting his time. I think Seinfeld covered this…
“We’ll let you know if we find anything” “Do you ever find anything?” “No”
But oh, my reg is out of date and the plate scanner picked it up? Boom, they really kick it into gear. So that’s $130… i could just go take care of the tags immediately with a friendly warning but now don’t even want to. And in the end I end up pretty fucked.
If only they put that effort into other things I just might have gotten my linear power amps back. Props to anyone who knows that product.
- Comment on Car dealers say they can’t sell EVs, tell Biden to slow their rollout 11 months ago:
That’s cool… 150k? Nice. I regret not getting one when i had the chance but I felt like it should had at least a small turbo. And i wasn’t overly confident with the aftermarket stuff. That said the gt86 platform is quite a base to build on.
But yeah, i hate the trend of a big touchscreen to do everything. Sometimes i wonder if it’s just getting old but I really feel like the UIs are awful.
Display is ok for GPS and maybe some audio but I certainly prefer standard tactile interface methods. You are right, dying breed. Enjoy your ride!
- Comment on Car dealers say they can’t sell EVs, tell Biden to slow their rollout 11 months ago:
This drives me crazy. Take a solid platform like the FRS… electrify it for something equiv to 300/300 and give it a 200 mile range. No fancy interior, lots of plastic, no lane assist etc. It would be fun and affordable. Same platform could be used for a more refined crossover.
I feel like Honda really should have done some type r civic thing but with electric.

What are you on about?
I’m actually in complete agreement with you. Yes there are safeties and whatever, I was just saying those safeties aren’t exactly monitored as you would expect. Don’t worry, I’m sure it won’t affect you. Wasn’t this just about chart recorders?
As for the personal stuff, sorry you took it that way. You want to argue about something we agree on and I know exactly how that goes. As such, i suggest we just skip to the part where we chill and do something fun. No you aren’t my child but picking apart my simple comment is sorta… well you know. It’s all good, you might be one in 8 billion but I’m still your friend. Take care.
- Comment on For some reason, I'm doubtful. 1 year ago:
Why did you have to bring attitude into it?
There are components of various flying machines that are critical and must be made at certain temp and humidity. Else they are out of spec. That’s pretty much it. The people in charge of this are less thorough than you’d like.
Be nicer.
- Comment on For some reason, I'm doubtful. 1 year ago:
I made so much money on this kinda stuff. And even after all updated they still kept those damn chart recorders. Luckily they were standalone and I guess easier than hitting print.
And most of you would be terrified if you knew what they were manufacturing. Ignorance is bliss, trust.

I don’t know if it’s still there but I once did some work getting a plasma cutter back to operational. OS/2. Not even warp!
Oh it’s a pretty solid OS but i mean, damn.
Parallel port hardware key and everything. I do believe in keeping what works working but at some point you gotta let go because you run out of people that can solve problems with it.

What is your demo? In my world it’s quite different. Isn’t Whatsapp proprietary? And I know few that will bother with signal these days. I’ve started getting obvious spam invites on it as well so…
RCS should just be the standard. There is no reason to argue that… it doesn’t end the apps you use but many of us are tired of multiple apps.

Yeah I got you… that was a stupid thing to say. I never meant it like that. I mean hell at the end of the day you got me to look up a couple things.
It was a good lesson. And I’m usually banging heads with friends because they are judging and then i did it. Thanks for checking me.
- Comment on Microsoft Edge could use a win 1 year ago:
Appreciate that but now I don’t know how to reply without sounding condescending… dammit! :) but you know, if you go back to 1995 bad boys that was how i communicated. Years later i relocated and nearly got killed for pointing out a funny and quite justified slight at a certain NFL team.
I’m not sure I have a point beyond stay trigger happy and call fuckers like me out! We all make mistakes and I have no problem being called out.
Shit, i still sound condescending don’t I? It’s just hard not to after a while. I don’t know if it’ll be Linux worthy but hit me up if you decide to try out borderlands 4. We’d be happy to have a new player in the group.
- Comment on Microsoft Edge could use a win 1 year ago:
Sorry yo, wasn’t intended that way I promise! I don’t have great people skills text based or otherwise. And actually I’m the one that sounds like an idiot anyway haha In my defense I’m quite tired and seeking excuses to not be working so yeah, my bad, no offense intended
- Comment on Microsoft Edge could use a win 1 year ago:
Hah I had to look some of that up. I bet I could guess your age within a couple years. :)
DCS seems like a cash grab and travkir thing seems quite the gimmick. But i understand you wanting to play with your friends and so do they and they aren’t going to bring Linux support despite it’s likely built on it.
Windows is essentially free anyway these days so you’ll just have to suck it up for now. You can disable things like realtime scanning for a performance boost. If you can’t make your own DNS try quadr9 to block a majority of the telemetry and shit.
Being able to play with your friends is more important really. Just dual boot or use a VM to get your nix skills. I’m sure many won’t agree with me and that’s cool. There is nothing Linux can’t do, yet there are apps (or games) that will simply require windows to participate. Sucks, but that’s reality.
- Comment on Microsoft Edge could use a win 1 year ago:
An interesting point… i didn’t even think about the anti-cheat engines nor considered they’d be bound to windows but yeah i get it, i deal with that on licensing services.
I feel your pain on storage. It’s cheaper now but it’s all relative. I’ll save your UN and hit you up if i stumble into something that may help.
- Comment on Microsoft Edge could use a win 1 year ago:
Honest question - what is the current problem(s) in Linux gaming? And I don’t mean that the way it sounds, I just haven’t done it in a long long time. I mean back then it had to have a linux specific version and you had to deal with X11 mouse input.
Now with Wayland and things like steamdeck existing I’m surprised it’s not more viable.
I’m sure it’s a long list but what are the main factors? Just a curiosity. Unfortunately I just don’t get to play games these days. Still GPU and sound driver issues? Publishers refusing to take the extra steps to make a multi platform engine work on it? Too many unknowns based on flavor of Linux installed?
- Comment on Phones should have FM radio again 1 year ago:
I wanted to tag on to your post. I’ve been without power for weather stuff too a few times and one thing i learned was that my cheapie 40" TV would only pull 10-15watts with backlight all the way down. With a small battery bank you can go a good while on that and tune into your local station via OTA. It was very watchable especially given the only light around was my candle.
For a couple more watts you watch shows off your memory stick as well once the event is over and you are just waiting for the power lines to get fixed… my phone drained nearly as much but to be fair i left the radio enabled so it was hunting for a tower.
Just something to consider for your gear if you live near the coast or in Texas. Battery banks are pretty cheap.
- Comment on FCC details plan to restore the net neutrality rules repealed by Ajit Pai 1 year ago:
The article mentions CA still enforcing net neutrality rules. How does that work? Eventually you have to hop outside the state for many services… are those backbones required to abide by those rules or can they still throttle as a result being out of state?
I firmly believe in all data being treated equally for the record and I hope this gets fixed. ISPs were kind of slow on throttling but it’s becoming more and more obvious in the last couple years in my experience.
- Comment on Antenna TV is pretty cool, actually 1 year ago:
Anyone want an old HD homerun prime? It’s just collecting a lot of dust. Not sure if I still have the PSU but i think it’s just a standard 12v. I’ve had it utilize a cable card before no prob. But I don’t use it, never have.
Model is HDHR-3CC
IPTV probably easier though.

- Comment on I hate how everything requires you to download a shitty proprietary data harvesting app nowadays when everything can be done just fine without an app. 1 year ago:
Collecting data relevant to the app is ok and logical. It’s collecting unrelated personal info I gave a problem with.
And i can sympathize with you regarding users. I design control system interfaces and sometimes I go to extremes to make it good for idiots. And i still get calls at 7am, have to drop everything else and drive 40 miles just to point out the giant red ALARM text i specifically put there to make things easier. It’s on the first fucking page!
It’s nice that remote access is easier now but some of these facility managers… i don’t know who puts their pants on for them because they don’t seem to be able to navigate treacherous logic and reason.
I hope I didn’t just quote your whole post, still trying to figure out boost hah
- Comment on I hate how everything requires you to download a shitty proprietary data harvesting app nowadays when everything can be done just fine without an app. 1 year ago:
An app in itself isn’t a bad thing… it’s the requirement that is wrong. Everything these days does seem to be geared around data mining and control. That well has to be getting awfully dry because it’s getting worse and worse.
You can’t even use many products without having an app that needs to be connected online so it can read your contacts and searches and such. Sites are getting harder to use if you have a DNS ad blocker or VPN on. Not sure where it ends…

Unless you hate remixes, check out DJ Trashy’s version of it. It’s old-school breakbeat so be warned.
Really his whole “Vocal Anthems” album is great. Basically high energy nostalgia.
