So, yeah. What’s a good Linux distro for stable diffusion and programming?
- Comment on How do you handle family requests that you disagree with? 1 month ago:
Use your words. Tell her you don’t want to and why.
- Comment on [Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism? 1 month ago:
To preface this all, I’m not a vegan but I support the cause. However on the west coast of Canada, a lot of shitty people use veganism as social camouflage to cover for their moral failings in other areas. I just don’t trust anyone that trumpets their veganism. Like like I don’t trust the overtly religious.

Taketomi Island. Very chill, really beautiful place. Would love to visit again.

Hold up. People assume it’s about apartheid. Remember all those clips of South Africans saying “they should go back where they come from” in that documentary montage at the beginning. Those were real clips of people talking about immigrants from Zimbabwe. District 9 is about immigration.
- Comment on Why can't people make ai's by making a neuron sim and then scaling it up with a supercomputer to the point where it has a humans number of neurons and then raise it like a human? 1 month ago:
To understand the complexity of the human brain, you need a brain more complex than the human brain.
- Comment on Recognize the mother of Wifi 2 months ago:
“Mother of Wifi” is a stretch. But “mother of Alka-Seltzer”? Definitely. “Midwife of the traffic signal”? Sure.
- Comment on Japanese police create fake support scam payment cards to warn victims 2 months ago:
And my guess would be a fraction of those warned would phone the scammers back to find another way to pay them. Some folks can’t bear to know they’ve been tricked.
- Comment on ByteDance prefers TikTok shutdown in US if legal options fail, sources say 2 months ago:
This just confirms the worst case scenario for me. This might be posturing, but it’s far more likely ByteDance can’t reveal how much command the CCP has over the data.

Uncut Gems was plenty anxiety inducing. A great movie I’ll only watch once.

Sure, but then dude has got little dentures rolling around in there. And that won’t help.
- Comment on TV Tropes' list of video game spiritual successors 2 months ago:
This whole article should have been organized according to the older game. That way we could have looked up our favorite games and found out if it had a spiritual successor.

Case in point: Measles. It was a thing when I was a kid. Then it wasn’t. Now my kids have to deal with Measles because we can’t teach scientific literacy.

- Comment on What does "araffe" mean? 3 months ago:
There’s some AI model that used it. Its meaning is related to “relaxed and lounging around”. I think it’s appears in automated posts. BLIP can interrogate an image and produce a text description. I suspect that’s what happening.

- Comment on I'm a US citizen, people in other countries, what do you think when you read stories like these about the US health care system? 4 months ago:
The only way I’d live in the States is if I was making so much money that a 20k medical bill meant nothing to me.
- Comment on Poignant post on the state of things 4 months ago:
We have the ability to feed everyone in the world, but we don’t. We could house everyone, but we don’t. We could heal everyone, and we don’t.
Capitalism was great for raising a huge portion of humanity out of poverty. It has its limits however, and we are reaching them. It’s time to find a new way of doing things, not for profit, but because those things need to be done.

Bloody hell. I’m training to do frontend right now. But I’ll have to remember that little trick.
- Comment on When will "Star Wars: A New Hope" enter public domain? 5 months ago:
They already lost control of Steamboat Willie. The limits of copyright have been reached. Disney even tried to leverage trademark by putting Steamboat Willie as the Disney logo at the beginning of all their movies. There is a limit to their ability to bend the law in their favor before reason takes over.

When I was writing, I stopped telling people about it because of this very thing. “You are the vessel that will birth my amazing book idea upon the world.” Like, naw, mate. You have fun writing that thing. I’ll write mine.
