We can help on a very small scale by planting a variety of native plants and not using pesticide or herbicide. I don’t know much about the risks of fertilizer on a small scale, but it’s generally not needed for native plants anyways.
- Comment on Why can't we go back to small phones? 6 days ago:
Yes, I also want smaller phones. Even my “regular” sized phone doesn’t fit into running shorts phone pockets unless I remove the case, but even then it’s a tight fit.

The latest pixel pro is available in both the regular size and the XL. In previous models the pro was only available as the XL.

Any time a video is known by its title instead of a description, it’s better not to seek it out.

Vinyl instead of boards also removes any particular spacing requirements.
- Comment on Avowed is the most fun I’ve have had since Skyrim! 2 weeks ago:
I think what I read was actually about oblivion rather than Skyrim, but I’m not sure if that changes your questions or not. I agree that the Skyrim character did feel like a genetic dragonborn. The guild quests especially made it feel that way. (I’m the head wizard, but also chief fighter dude and captain of the thieves guild… What?)
I guess for the role play aspect I prefer games to more narrowly define the main character and tell the story from there rather than leave it up to me to decide who the character becomes. A Plague Tale is a great example of this type of story telling, but of course it isn’t at all comparable to an open world game.
- Comment on Avowed is the most fun I’ve have had since Skyrim! 2 weeks ago:
I’ve heard it’s more action and less role playing than Skyrim, which sounds perfect for me. Does that match your experience?

- Comment on Is there any way to search through all the games on Steam for titles that don't use the word "dystopian" anywhere in the description? 2 months ago:
I don’t like souls like games. I saw black myth wukong was specifically said to not be a souls like game, but guess what? It’s enough of the same combat elements that I still don’t like it. So now I avoid games that are souls like, but also games that people claim they’re not souls like.

Isn’t paraphrasing/summarizing the top result a pretty good use case for LLMs? If I search “what temperature should I bake cupcakes at?” I really just want a simple answer, not dozens of links to life story style recipe blogs.
DDG didn’t provide a summary, but Google did (and it was very long). I assumed the answer was 350F, but the summary suggested 325-375. Lower for flatter cupcakes, higher for more domed. Interesting.
This type of summary wouldn’t be nearly as helpful for a technical programming question, but I doubt that describes the bulk of search queries.

The fact that users wanting a “feature complete” product at launch is seemingly news to them is absurd.

Experian has a program where you connect your bank account and they monitor transactions for things that could improve your credit by a couple points. I’m sure they’re not also harvesting the rest of your data to use in their analytics, right?

Even if they don’t actually “use” the DLCs, it makes sense to require the same content that the developer owns and used to test the mod.

- Comment on Waymo Is Suing People Who Allegedly Smashed and Slashed Its Robotaxis 7 months ago:
Criminal prosecution and civil liability are different. If the criminal conviction also includes restitution (pay for the damages) then there likely wouldn’t be a need for a civil suit, but it’s possible that the suit is to go after additional damages. For example, the criminal conviction might include $1000 in restitution to cover the property damage, but the civil suit might ask for money to cover lost revenue for the time the car was out of service.
- Comment on Installing J-channel under existing siding? 7 months ago:
I used to be an insurance adjuster. Coverage for this is questionable and the damages would likely be under your deductible. This is a workmanship issue, so the J channel itself isn’t covered. The (hopefully minimal) ensuing water damage would likely be covered, though. My main concern is water inside the wall saturating insulation and creating a mold issue.

I don’t mind when it’s an obvious break followed by a new scene. I do mind when the break is in the middle of a scene and they essentially replay the last thirty seconds before continuing the story. It just feels very disjointed and dated.

Have you played A Plague Tale (innocence, then requiem)? It’s one of the best story driven games I’ve ever played. It’s entirely linear, so plot urgency doesn’t feel artificial like it does in open world games.

- Comment on It's out now! The prologue for my solo project, a roguelike tower defense, is live. Check it out. 9 months ago:
Played a bit and enjoyed it. I really like the concept of the first skill having way less cool down. I found the scaling information a little hard to follow. For example, skill does 1 + 20% (icon) damage. This could be improved by also putting the formula in plain language, i.e. “20% of elemental damage plus 1”.
The auto skill feature could make this an excellent mobile game. I played with all my skills on auto attack and it worked quite well.
Some of the stats could use some more explanation. Element and support were particularly vague. Also the first skill cool down stat, I had a hard time figuring out how useful more of that stat would be since the tooltip still showed the skill’s original cool down.
Overall a really cool concept and implementation. Looking forward to playing the full release.

Peacock disabled auto play previews for a while and it was great. But that was only because the whole screen would go black for a couple seconds as it tried to load the preview. They fixed that issue and now the previews are back. Mute button is doing a lot of great work these days.

Being a developer at a non tech company is great. My role tends to blur between salesforce amin and developer, but that’s partly because of the small size of the company (less than 100 employees total, less than 10 in IT).
