- Comment on Can someone explain why so many people here are FOR blocking Threads.net on a server level? 3 months ago:
Believe it or not I didn’t mean it as a pejorative and I was literally asking. I continue to perceive the comment-in-question as having low self-awareness but tbh, who cares. But if I’m honest with myself I did intend to be rude when I wrote my comment and I don’t believe anyone benefits when I write in that state of mind. So I apologize for that.
I find nothing wrong with being autistic besides that it entails additional challenges that folks face when dealing with allistic people and vice versa. But we understand it a bit more each day.

It would be more accurate if you said, “This is not about right and wrong (for me).”
If you say it’s not about right and wrong, dead stop, then you are pledging full faith to the institutions, the very ones we are critiquing.
Basically, you are dismissing my opinion as misguided, dismissing me as missing the point and I am telling you it was expressed exactly as intended.
In short, you are arguing on the wrong conceptual meta-level for me to respond without dismissing my own claim. If I take as True that “this isn’t about right and wrong” (it is), then I am setting aside the power I have in a democratic society to say, “Fuck this I’m changing it.” Maybe we’ve just been stuck in gridlock politics, with a ruling class that strips and monetizes every aspect of humanity that the society today doesn’t realize the power citizens wield.
Not sure. Been fun to think and share thoughts with you though. Thanks for your time and have a nice night.
An impasse is a perfectly acceptable outcome on a sane platform like Lemmy.

It’s a quote of an opinion, so in general I ignore them. I’m usually more interested in distilling ideas.
But I guess we can look at this one. Find it’s essence. Tho it doesn’t seem very deep…
“Societies with rule of law are dictatorships. How leaders are selected and the existence of fundamental Constitutional rights is not a factor.”
So in short.
Having laws at all is a dictatorship.
Yeah, that is one of the opinions I’d ignore. It’s easy to have that opinion inside the walls of a lawed society.
Luckily it is valid to respond to an opinion with an opinion, and mine is that I imagine everyone (except the strongest with the most resources) would abandon that perspective as soon as they lived in a world with no laws.

I had nothing to say to that. I agree with it.

“No one should stand up for new rights. Don’t rock the boat bro.”
Your mindset is the road to a dictatorship.
- Comment on Internet Archive forced to remove 500,000 books after publishers’ court win 4 months ago:
“Because what is legal is always right.
And what is right is always legal.”No?
In a fascist state, your mindset is welcome, “Well they broke the rule, they must pay,” but do you never abstract one more level? Is the rule itself breaking something?
Those who downvote you say yes. Nuance is important. The rule has two main affects that I see.
- Direct effect (the goal) :Publishers maintain a monopoly on bookselling low value books, the structure of their business preventing any competition.
Okay lets think about #1. Is that good or bad?
- Indirect effect : the members of that society now have a restricted access to knowledge.
Okay lets think about #2. Is that good or bad?
Being critical in thought enough to recognize the flaws of the first quote is key.

- Comment on Does mini 12V DC diaphram water pumps like this get really hot after running for 5 min? 6 months ago:
If you are in a pinch you can wing it with the datasheet of a similar component by a reputable manufacturer. Just know that you can’t quite trust the sheet but it should give you an idea of how a sane pump should operate. Like if a similar manufacturer makes a pump with an expected operating temp of 80C and yours is 150C, probably don’t need the exact data sheet to know that may be a problem.
So find all the 12Vdc water pump datasheets for pumps of similar form factor to yours and cross reference them to get an idea of common values. This will give you an idea of if your pump is behaving.
All you care about is temperature so should be easy enough to work out from 3-6+ datasheets. However many you are able to find.
- Comment on Does mini 12V DC diaphram water pumps like this get really hot after running for 5 min? 6 months ago:
What does your datasheet say the operating temperature is?
How does “really hot” compare to the operating temperature? What is the current draw?
How much power does that current draw produce compared to the expected rated operational power. What is the operating RPM?
What is the datasheet’s operational RPM range?I don’t know the answer to your question, but these are the type of questions I’d ask when I’m trying to understand if some component’s behavior is anomalous or operational.

Jewish students want to feel safe.
Translated.
Jewish students want to stop being reminded that the Jewish state is carrying out one of the world’s genocides.
And now some fake interviews that I made up, we reached out and heard from Jewish students.
“I just don’t like how they keep mentioning the exploded and maimed children,” one Jewish student said. “When I am home in Israel they play ice cream truck music over the totally-not-a-war footage and censor the video with smiling face emojis.”
.
“The few Palestinian students keep saying their family is dying to Israel’s bombs. That makes me sad, I don’t like to feel sad. Am I in the Holocaust?” said another Jewish student when interviewed getting into his Porsche.
.
“I am very against the continued bombing campa…” (wait wait don’t interview that one that is wrongthink), sorry Tom technical difficulties with that interview, that Jewish student was clearly an insane terrorist.

One of the reasons I value autistic traits, literally everything seems arbitrary to me.
The invisible fabric of society that everyone seems to revere appears to me as a heavy suffocating blanket with no rhyme or reason.
Idk, or maybe I’m an egotistical know it all. Always gotta leave room for being wrong.

When the quiet stuff becomes not so quiet, it is our way of life now.
Pause and think, what used to be presumed… but quiet and with a measure of doubt, but is now said aloud? Many things.
Keeping track of these things keeps track of where a society is heading.
