Sure, and more generally I’m sick of religion, but Christianity is the one that has the biggest impact on my life and so it’s where all my disdain goes. I still don’t hate religion, fundamentally it’s religious people that I hate, and they’d only be using something else if religion didn’t exist. But fuck me do I have no patience for Christians these days
- Comment on Fundies, fascists, and fundie fascist feelings don't care about your facts 1 week ago:
I’ve always been fairly live and let live about religion, and Christianity in particular - some Christians are annoying about it, sure, but most of them I have always assumed are just having their own faith and happy in turn to live and let live. The last few years though I’ve really come to despise Christianity in particular, and the majority of Christians as a result, because of shit like this. Christians on the while really do seem just completely incompatible with a live and let live attitude, they need their particular view on the world (regardless of how actually Christian is) to be the way of the world and they will use every tactic at their disposal to force it on the rest of us

You know that idea of putting “here be dragons” on a map to indicate that that area is unknown? “Dark matter” is Physics for “here be dragons”

- Comment on Transferring saves between PCSX2 and a PS2, since I have a Memcard Pro 2 would there be any special steps I'd need to take? 2 months ago:
Good to know. As far as I know the only difference between a regular memory card and the Memcard Pro is the SD card it all ultimately gets saved to, so hopefully it will just be as simple as copying the save to and fro

I already own an Xbox, there’s no earthly way that buying an old anything would be cheaper than paying the small developer mode activation charge for the console I already have (bought second hand a few years ago from a friend who had used it 3 times)
- Comment on Xbox consoles are now getting a fullscreen Xbox Game Pass Ultimate ad at boot, just a day after a 50% price hike was announced 2 months ago:
I’m in full agreement there, but at least it’s a small one-off payment to just use it the way I want to rather than playing cat-and-mouse with hacks and software updates

If there’s a way to activate dev mode without paying them I don’t know about it

I mean, I’ll give them some money to activate developer mode so I can install emulators on my Xbox. I don’t need emulators on my Xbox but it’s gonna sit there doing nothing otherwise because I’m not paying for Gamepass

The fact that you recognise it would be a struggle should honestly spur you on even more to do it. People got by for a long time without the Internet and even though now the same infrastructure they’d have used is at best a shell of its former self if not gone entirely it would still be possible. We don’t have to stop entirely but if a bunch of sites suddenly find their traffic is way down they’d start to put pressure on about getting rid of ID checks and we might finally see some movement
- Comment on Age Verification Is A Windfall for Big Tech—And A Death Sentence For Smaller Platforms 3 months ago:
Same. I know there are easy ways around it but I’m not going to use them, and I wish more people could take this attitude - if everyone cut down their Internet usage in response to this ID stuff things would quickly start to turn around

It’s certainly a tricky one, I feel like a lot of us have some trauma still from covid anyway, and the world is just acting like it has gone away. At least in the real world there are spaces outside that can’t be controlled that easily. I feel you on the meetup groups too, I’d love some local queer friends but I don’t know where the local queer people are meeting up. But the Internet is becoming the ultimate hostile space very quickly and sadly we need to either accept it or try and pull away now before it’s too late

I didn’t say not to use it at all, I said to use it less. If you genuinely are unable to connect to other people without the Internet then I am truly sorry about your situation, but if it’s at all remotely possible that you could connect with people offline - even if you first meet them online - then I really urge you to figure out a way to do it because that’s how we break the power of these ghouls, we stop using “their” stuff for our needs
- Comment on bet you can think of more 3 months ago:
I didn’t say “Internet bad” and I didn’t say not to use it at all. I said to use it less, with the implication being to cultivate a life outside of it too, too many people just use the Internet as much as possible and they put up with whatever shit gets thrown at them to keep using it. Like, I’m in the UK so I’m getting hit full-force with this ID shit and I’ve just decided that - as far as I possibly can - if a site needs to see my ID to access it maybe I just don’t need that site. I’m not showing my ID, I’m not using any of the clever tricks people have come up with to get around it, I’m not using a VPN to get around it, I just won’t use that site, and if that leads me to spending less time online then so be it. And if we could all make that decision then things might pick up a lot faster
- Comment on bet you can think of more 3 months ago:
Sincerely: use the Internet less. It’s better for you anyway, but in general we’re seeing a real crackdown from corporations and governments. In response if we all just stop using it so much because it’s becoming unpleasant anyway they won’t know what to do. And maybe a happy side effect if everyone starts to kick the Internet habit is the population becoming generally more sane

How is it that the weirdest dudes keep ending up with so much power and influence. Like, this is just bigoted shit obviously, but it’s weird bigoted shit. What is it about people that makes them look at a weirdo freak (derogatory) like this and think “this is a man I need to have direct the entirety of my belief system going forward”?

I can’t speak for Europe proper (relatively sane Europe), here in the UK I fully expect most of that same kind of behaviour. Probably not to the same extent as the US but it’ll be bad

To be fair, what even is the fucking point of reporting it anymore? We saw what ended up happening with covid, where even otherwise right-minded people started having tantrums about masks and vaccines. The vast majority of people are not going to take precautions with a new pandemic, I half expect the right wingers to start deliberately sneezing in each others faces and asking if we’re triggered by it. We’re screwed if another pandemic happens, and reporting on it won’t even remotely change that, as a species overall we just be too stupid to survive
