McDonalds isn’t a fast food company. They are a real estate investment company. Their former CFO said as much “we are not technically in the food business. We are in the real estate business. The only reason we sell fifteen-cent hamburgers is because they are the greatest producer of revenue, from which our tenants can pay us our rent.” - Harry J Sonneborn

I mean, there’s already apps that are good that were created by reddit app developers. E.g. Boost for Lemmy. The problem isn’t the apps, it’s the availability of content and people. The /r/orioles on reddit has 85,163 subscribers. 110 people on the page right now. /c/Baltimore_Orioles here has 150 subscribers and no posts in 4 months which was a bot posted game thread with 0 comments on it.

The tough part for me is that the reason I use Reddit is for bullshitting with people about sports teams I like. Lets look at some of the communities here.
- Baltimore Orioles – There’s one on lemmy.world with 150 subscribers. The last post is from 4 months ago and it’s a game thread posted by a bot with 0 comments. There’s also one on fanaticus.social with the last post from 7 months ago.
- Carolina Panthers – There’s one on fanaticus.social with 3 subscribers.
- Miami Heat – There’s one on lemmy.world with 10 subscribers.
- Pittsburgh Penguins – Again, lemmy.world with 11 subscribers.
I’d love to get off reddit but until there’s actually people to talk with, this place is just never going to meet the needs of sports content that I use Reddit for. I had no interest in Bluesky until some people actually got on it as well. The Shutdown Fullcast for college football brought a bunch of people and fans there so it gave some utility to the site. Without utility, there’s no reason to be here.

- Comment on Elon Musk's X further squeezes developers with apparent new API fees 4 months ago:
I used to use it solely for sports news updates. Once Elon bought it, kept constantly getting politics news that I didn’t want. Kept adding blocked terms hoping to not see it anymore. Nope. Kept getting pushed right wing bullshit. Deleted and never looked back. It helps that people have actually moved to Bluesky. The biggest issue I have is with Reddit and Lemmy not having the sports communities here. Game threads for Orioles games had 0 comments. I’m not going to just sit there and post to myself.

I’ve completely lost faith in places like Amazon. Used to be able to find decent stuff there but unless you’re looking for a specific brand/item, it’s all crap. Wanted to find some relatively decent priced workout shorts with a compression liner built in. There’s so many shitty brands that all have the same damn images for the shorts. They’re all just going to be drop shipped BS from China with no one actually standing behind the product. I’m back to B&M stores now like Dick’s and their DSG line is actually reasonably priced and good quality.
- Comment on Some subreddits could be paywalled, hints Reddit CEO 6 months ago:
Oh they already are. But if they start making porn subs like gonewild as paid services, those users are going to push the limits of whats allowed in other subs to try and just get people to stumble into their profile.
- Comment on Some subreddits could be paywalled, hints Reddit CEO 6 months ago:
I can’t even imagine the creators in those subreddits would be thrilled since so many of them seemingly use those subs as a free advertising spot for their onlyfans. More of them are trying to be creative with overtly sexual questions in askreddit and people just stumbling in to their profile.
- Comment on Google Maps tests new pop-up ads that give you an unnecessary detour 7 months ago:
To be fair, it only happens on the Promotions tab for me. They don’t inject anything on my normal inbox (at least on PC).
- Comment on Google Maps tests new pop-up ads that give you an unnecessary detour 7 months ago:
I mean, I feel like that’s going to happen regardless if you’re using an Android phone. I don’t think using a different app for GPS navigation is going to change that. I’m not saying we shouldn’t push for more stuff to be opt in and allow people to have their privacy maintained, but in the market right now, the app you use for GPS isn’t changing who is tracking you.

They have one on the inside but not the outside. That’s why the mom couldn’t get into the vehicle or the firefighters and they had to take an axe to the window. How are you supposed to pop the hood to jump start your car if the battery is dead and you can’t get in the car because the battery is dead? It’s just a stupid design to not have a manual override.
- Comment on [deleted] 8 months ago:
Sure you’d think you wouldn’t need regulations that state that there should be a manual way to open your car door. Have we gotten that stupid? Why in god’s name would you not have that option? What happens if the battery dies and you can’t start the car? You can’t open the door to pop the hood to even jump it. With all the brilliant people that work at a company like Tesla and no one thought there should be a way to open the door from the outside if there’s no power?
- Comment on Prime Video subs will soon see ads for Amazon products when they hit pause 9 months ago:
Yeah I’ve actually been happy with the clothes I’ve gotten from Target too. Their All In Motion line or whatever it is has been nice for quarterzips for golfing. Found 32 degrees stuff at Costco and their website has all the basics I need (Polos/Casual slacks/underwear/socks) for cheap and its comfortable.
- Comment on Prime Video subs will soon see ads for Amazon products when they hit pause 9 months ago:
I’ve ended up shifting a lot of stuff back to brick and mortar just because Amazon can’t be trusted on anything that isn’t a brand you already know. I was looking for gym shorts with the sewn in compression shorts and all of it was just the exact same image under many stupid brands. Just a quick glance the same image is being used by Leidowei, Surenow, NELEUS, Ultra Performance, Aolesy, JWJ, Born Tough, Pudolla. Like how can you trust any of those? Went to Dicks and just bought their in store brand (DSG) and they’ve been working out great. Plus I can actually inspect them and try them on before buying. Unless you’re buying a known brand/commodity, Amazon is just filled with drop shippers and you can’t trust their reviews at all.
- Comment on Hyundai pauses X ads over pro-Nazi content on the platform 10 months ago:
Yes. They have some flaws. I’m willing to admit that but to say they’re shitty when they have fewer problems than pretty much any American built vehicle is being disingenuous. Saying one experience doesn’t make a rule and then following that up with anecdotal evidence from a couple people you know as proof is also disingenuous. I’m not saying they make the best vehicles on the road. I’d probably give that notch to Toyota. My point isn’t to say that they’re the best manufacturer out there but to call them shitty isn’t being honest. They have far fewer problems than their American made counterparts. Toyota and Honda are going to be better options but to say Hyundai are shitty is not accurate.
- Comment on Hyundai pauses X ads over pro-Nazi content on the platform 10 months ago:
Yeah, to call them shitty is disingenuous. They’re a solid brand at an affordable price which makes them pretty darn good for most Americans. And they still refused to actually point to any actual data about them being a bad brand. Just said JD Power is bad.
- Comment on Hyundai pauses X ads over pro-Nazi content on the platform 10 months ago:
Okay. Well looking at brand reliability numbers from JD Power, they’re 8th. (Genesis which is their premium line is 2nd).

Where’s your data to back up your meaningless claims?
- Comment on Hyundai pauses X ads over pro-Nazi content on the platform 10 months ago:
Have clearly never owned a Hyundai. My mom had a cheapo Hyundai Accent that she drove until it hit 300k miles. She only upgraded because she got tired of manual transmission, hand crank windows, and no power locks.
- Comment on Microsoft now pops up a poll asking why you'd want to use another browser when you download Chrome 1 year ago:
I’ve never really needed to have many tabs open so I don’t really understand that struggle. I might have it more with my new job in commercial lending where our loan origination system is a web based app so maybe I’ll need to have a lot more tabs open for that. If so, I could see myself switching to vertical tabs but I’ve just never had a need to have more than like 10 open at a time and that’s usually only when I’m shopping around and comparing products/reviews.
- Comment on Microsoft now pops up a poll asking why you'd want to use another browser when you download Chrome 1 year ago:
I never really got into vertical tabs at all. Although I never have that many tabs open that I really need that space efficiency. I can never understand how people have more than like 8 tabs open.
- Comment on Microsoft now pops up a poll asking why you'd want to use another browser when you download Chrome 1 year ago:
Yeah, they’re really struggling to get their reputation back after letting IE drag it down. I honestly never really used Edge until I started my new job last month. The system is locked to Chrome or Edge and I decided to give Edge a try since it would actually let me enable dark mode where Chrome is locked by system administrators for themes. It’s actually a good browser. I just never trusted it because it was a MS browser. But I prefer Firefox to all of them but that’s just a personal preference.
- Comment on Twitter is throttling traffic to websites Elon dislikes 1 year ago:
The problem is that there isn’t a great replacement for it now. The same with reddit. I’m on here and I’m on Bluesky. The main uses I have for both Reddit and Twitter/X is sports news and discourse. Reddit for the discourse and Twitter for the news. There aren’t the communities here to have that. I want to talk Orioles baseball but the Orioles community here literally has zero comments other than bot comments updating scoring updates/pitching changes during the game threads. I’m trying to do my part and comment/post stuff to them but without any actual responses or conversation it feels like yelling into the wind.
- Comment on Would you work for a corporation that you oppose ideologically, if the pay is good? 1 year ago:
I have worked for the last 6.5 years at a faith based credit union despite being an atheist. All of our meetings start with a prayer. They have been good up until recently where we’ve done more and more investment real estate lending and that doesn’t sit well with me with our housing crisis in the US. Have a 3rd interview with a regional bank to move to more C&I and CRE loans instead of single family homes. I know they are still involved in it but I’m not going to be the one writing loans on investment properties. They also do a lot of affordable housing lending and community reinvestment in distressed areas.
