As much as I dislike ai, this is why I enjoyed the short lived “Artifact” news website (Yahoo bought them out). Their feed had a feature where you could report a click bait title and it would use ai to turn it into a normal sentence. If enough people clicked it, that would become how it was seen by people. I really dislike people using the click bait title on the fediverse, but it’s a symptom of the internet today as a whole.

As another option, there are storage lockers and other places you can have things shipped to as well. UPS and some others have these services. I’ve never lived in Chicago so do some research around where you will be staying.

Kevin Rose also left Digg at some point, not sure how much of that demise is on him. He had to buy it back for this second run.

At least this looks like it will add some variety.

With all the IP Paramount owns, they sure doubling down on Star Trek. I think they have more concurrent shows right now than Star Wars. Hell I think Star Wars is down to just Ahsoka now, and a like one cartoon.

I’ll have to take a look.

There were sealed and have fake passages, but I don’t think there were traps.

Definitely not the kind of treasure people want to find later.

That also reminds me of the Oak Island supposed treasure in that pit.

Close. I work for big-pit-snakes. Who do you think supplies the ancient temples?

Movies, TV, comics, Video Games, books, etc. People in this thread have already named a few. But as you point out, archeology in reality is rarely what we see in mainstream entertainment.
- Comment on There aren't any ancient ruins with crazy traps and riddles 2 weeks ago:
Would that make lawyers modern day archeologists?

Step 1. Have money.

I’m surprised there hasn’t been a modern day person that buried their fortune with them under puzzles and traps.

I know there tends to be a disagreement about this on Lemmy, but this is also what I have observed.
For example, If someone has a computer problem and its windows, there’s a good chance the top comment will be “Stop, use linux”. Almost any conversation can turn into “you’re supporting capitalism”. It discourages people from wanting to post and engage, because of the likely hood of something turning into an argument. Not everyone has the mental bandwidth for it, and they just want a place to come and chill.
Hell I used to be active in making Cassettefuturism grow when lemmee was a thing, and we’d get people coming into that niche community to argue with us about our hobby.
The difference between Reddit and Lemmy was that niche communities would usually not hit the front page and you could be off in your own little corner. Here since things are smaller, you are more likely to run into some niche communities through discovery.

There are some laptops where the screen flips over, I have one of those laptops. I have to say I only use that feature like once every 3months or so.
- Comment on Is there a point we can track down when we stopped caring about doctors, nurses, teacher, etc? And thought it was a great idea to pay atheletes millions and screw everyone else? 5 weeks ago:
If I had to guess, “athletes” was the first thing that popped into their head. But I have to assume they mean people who don’t “arguably” contribute to furthering of humanity. So Actors, musicians, athletes vs doctors, teachers, scientists, etc.

I think the seeds may have been planted with the radio. Once athletes became celebrities it was only a matter of time. I know little about baseball, but even I know who Babe Ruth was, who played into the 1930s. TV blowing up in the 40s added an additional layer of connecting the names to the faces. This eventually gave way for MTV to come into the mix creating the beginnings of modern pop culture.

A few words in and I could already tell who it was. I have no idea how this person is still in a field that involves people.
- Comment on Luke Cage is way to overpowerd to be a "street level" hero 2 months ago:
The reason he is a street level hero is because I believe he was created for that. It was important back then (and still today) to have a bulletproof black man in comics. Luke Cage was the first African American Marvel super hero to get his own comic (Black Panther being the first over black Marvel hero)

He’s been on the Avengers, so he must have been in instances to let loose.
- Comment on Does Ōkami get better? [Spoilers for first half of game inside] 3 months ago:
I also had a similar reaction. I bought it when it came out on the wii, but quickly sold it because I couldn’t get into it. I kept hearing how amazing it was over the years, so I bought it again for very cheap a couple of years ago. I finished it the second time around mostly because I had now paid twice for it. The artwork and world are amazing, but the gameplay was underwhelming for me. I do own one figure, because I like the artwork.

- Comment on Why do i tip my bartender $2 per drink and per bar food order but 20% when I order food from a waitress? Am I tipping wrong? 5 months ago:
I agree tipping should go away, but I’m wondering how those economics would work out? Most food places barely break even, I can’t see anyone being able to pay their servers more, so they would still pass that onto the customers.
Add to this that people aren’t really smart. I remember some time ago, some places testing out paying their waiters, plus showing how much food would be with tax included with no surprised. People preferred paying more with tipping, the big price sticker drove business away.
