100% agree.
This topic just boils my blood every time.

Imho the worst that this show did was picking someone to do the screen writing who didn’t care about anything but her own ambitions. Fuck the lore and original story right? Not like all the people eagerly waiting for the show for a year and hyping + doing basically marketing for the show for free AND a popular, expensive nerd actor actively trying to get the role had any passion for existing stuff! They were waiting for the screenwriter’s interpretation, of course!
HBO would have done this better.

That’s useful, thanks for the recommendation! I’ll have to check this out. Especially nice for those who can’t afford new PC’s atm.
- Comment on Microsoft still can't convince folks to upgrade to Windows 11 6 days ago:
Thanks for the links. I recall reading that installing windows 11 with bypasses might break after some future update? I just didn’t want to offer a solution that might cause issues as well.
For some linux was a good option, but for some I said you can either get a new computer or pay for the LTSC. Thankfully I was able to find some affordable win11 compatible laptops for their usecases.
- Comment on Microsoft still can't convince folks to upgrade to Windows 11 6 days ago:
I have been called by friends, family friends, and their friends to help with this and so many have hardware that is not supported, and some are not able to afford a new PC right now. That’s my limited and personal experience about this.
I have reservations about installing Linux Mint/other for these people because I don’t have time to help right now and you do need sometimes help if you are slightly tech aware but not enough to be able to troubleshoot yourself or search for right info. For folks who barely touch any settings and just use it for docs + web it’s easy, but for others not always.
Microsoft is such an ass for doing this.

That is so relieving to hear, awesome!
- Comment on The EU has never been closer to agreeing on Chat Control – here's how we got here and what’s at stake 1 week ago:
From the article:
As Voge from the Internet Society explains, Germany is key because there’s a new government in charge. The previous government was indeed very pro-encryption – seeking to make encryption a legal right at home, while strongly opposing mandatory scanning in the block. Yet, the new administration “is giving very mixed messages and no one can definitively say what’s going to happen on Friday,” Voge added.
I really like the idea of encryption as a legal right.

On top of all of this, these fucks don’t seem to be worried about their own encryption outside of office / position.
Fucking idiots. Has anyone told them that them using any of their free-time devices would be suspectible to any exploit that this introduces too (and it will)? Oh, got a new iPad for home? Guess what, you are important enough that a zero-day exploit was worth it to be used on you. Would they get off their career-high for one moment and think…
- Comment on For people who relocated: when did you realize you want to live in the new place long-term & why? 1 week ago:
Moved inside Europe to another country because my partner had lived 3 years in my home country and complained about everything, so we decided it’s my turn to complain about everything. One more year to go to settle the score.
On a serious note we both love things about each others country and we are both open to live in either. Living and breathing your partner’s culture and environment they grew up in is such a great way to understand them on a deeper level. I finally understand her complaints and she understands mine!
- Comment on How can I see my removed posts from any community? 1 week ago:
This is true but I just want to add that instance admins can purge the uploads/posts entirely with a button that’s right next to “delete”. I recommend keeping a local copy of media you want to keep.

Same, mostly because it’s not relaxing anymore and you need to manage time as well. I can’t always commit so much time unfortunately and we all know how toxic some MMO players can be! (not always but yeah)
- Comment on Day 371 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing 1 month ago:
That is so true! And there (atleast when I played) wasn’t much group content so you never had to stress about that either (unlike in other mmos)

I have to say I really loved RuneScape quests. Some of the quests are incredibly humorous and really clever.
The quest about neighbourhood wizard robbing a bank and the accompanying “security cam footage” of him “pwning noob players” during robbery but denying everything has stuck with me as a core memory.

I say if you plan to stick around and have patience to cultivate your community: do it.
If you don’t, then please don’t create them. You could join and post in existing communities that are close to those topics instead.
You are of course free to do as you will, but the reason I say don’t go for it if you don’t have the patience is because dead and unmoderated communities cause more issues than they solve.
Additionally: if you are new it’s possible some of the communities you are looking for already exist. Searching in lemmyverse.net might give you better results in case you are on a small instance.

- Comment on lemmy.wtf 502 errors 2 months ago:
That’s very possible! I mean as a user I also do like stability (had to instance hop quite a few times when I joined fediverse due to them shutting down) but also see resiliency and strenght in being able to spin up an instance of a platform we are all familiar with. When people leave reddit they don’t have similar alternatives with many users, but on lemmy/piefed we can always migrate and stay on the same platform with different rules and administrators.
Of course that’s simplifying the whole topic, but I’m not that worried about fediverse. But you are right of course that for new users who are on the edge already this might be a big dealbreaker. That’s why I always suggest bigger instances first. Once you are comfortable with fedi/threadiverse you can migrate to a smaller instance (I did exactly that once I figured out how this all works). I know lemm.ee shutting down probably made a noticable chunk of people give up on fediverse because we didn’t see any instance completely fill the void that lemm.ee’s weekly activity left.

This topic has had a lot of discussion, but backup plans are good indeed. Lemmy.wtf is small though, so I wouldn’t worry about it and I believe Meldrik is coming back :) what happened with feddit.de was tragic. I wonder if they ever found out what happened to the admin.

I thought lemsha.re stopped working - guess not, that’s good news! And such a cool feature by the dev with the voyager link. Haven’t tried that feature out yet (voyager is my personal favourite lemmy app).
- Comment on Which instance should i choose when i share a link? 2 months ago:
Ah must remember wrong or maybe it was proposed!
Yeah the software would need to know, but in a way “lemmy” knows because it knows which instances your instance is federating with. If your instance isn’t federating with the link target it cant find it anyway.
Same as the ! Exclamation mark for communities or @ for users it can do a look up (you can put my link to your search input in lemmy and it will find it), but there would be otherways to achieve this too.
But yeah it would be really nice to have some universal way like the ! And @ signs to point to another fedi post/comment.
