You remember wrong. It just means “of rome” and it’s that because it was a roman province. There’s a difference between “of rome” which is what “român” means and “the true descendants of Rome” which is what you’re claiming. We’ve never claimed to be more Roman than Italians or anything. That’d be stupid.
- Comment on Bears Cave 1 week ago:
We’ve never claimed that.

Plus, drummer is always more fit than the rest cause of the effort required to play. Seems like a bad idea all around.
- Comment on smart engineering 3 weeks ago:
No, the joke wouldn’t have been as funny if it said “scammer” instead of “smart engineer”. Plus, I think it’s more a jab at engineers rather than anything. Because most would rather argue/explain the whole 10 vs 11 thing than just go "ok, sure, I can do that " and get paid.

Yeah, don’t worry about kids dying of cancer. They’re irrelevant in the vastness that is god.
I wonder, tho. Which one do you mostly lean towards. Are kids dying to punish someone or are they dying to test the parents? Or is there a third, more important reason we mortals can’t comprehend? Or is it just about having faith that it’s his will?
I can go on a killing spree tomorrow and feel good about myself because that was god’s will, right? He allowed it to happen, right?
We’ve either got free will in which case there’s no “god’s will” or, we don’t actually have free will and everything is predetermined to happen anyway. Not sure which is more fucked up to believe.

- Comment on Nissan develops paint that keeps cars cool in summer heat 2 months ago:
I’m not talking about repainting anything, why are you moving the goalposts? Just buy a white car AND use a visor, what’s wrong with that? And in the future, if this stuff is actually good, maybe all cars can come already painted with it?
- Comment on Nissan develops paint that keeps cars cool in summer heat 2 months ago:
Maybe the fact that the experiment was done when outside were only 20-22 degrees made the difference less noticeable? Otherwise I can’t explain why all the other tests I’ve found said the difference was 5-10+ degrees.
- Comment on Nissan develops paint that keeps cars cool in summer heat 2 months ago:
Could you link one of these? All the ones that I can find say there’s quite a bit of a difference
- Comment on Nissan develops paint that keeps cars cool in summer heat 2 months ago:
Mythbusters did an experiment with a black car and a white car hitting in the sun. The black car was 12 degrees Celsius hotter. Claiming that the paint makes no difference is such a weird take. I thought this was common knowledge as well as many people I’ve met avoid darker colours in summer and such.
- Comment on What are some game series you would like to see revived? And if possible, which entry should the new game follow from? 2 months ago:
Bunch of great suggestions already so I’ll add these:
Sid Meier’s pirates!
Majesty
Gothic (it’s actually getting remake, but if the intro is anything to go by, it’s gonna be a disappointment. We’ll see…)
- Comment on First overseas trip with my girlfriend – Any tips to make It our best trip? 3 months ago:
Yep. Agreed. Unplanned bits are often very memorable. Have a broad plan, but don’t fuss about sticking to it too much.
Except the pictures bit. I like taking pictures of touristy stuff and such. Because It’ll help me remember the way I experienced the place. And pictures of stuff in museums because it’ll help me remember what I enjoyed most. I don’t wanna have to look up a list of all the expositions later on in order to find something I wanna review or share with someone.
- Comment on First overseas trip with my girlfriend – Any tips to make It our best trip? 3 months ago:
Others have said it, but I’ll stress it some more. Don’t overplan. Whenever I go somewhere I make a list of all the places I wanna go to and I only schedule one place/day. Two at most if they’re small things. But don’t plan a museum in the morning and then a second place/museum in the afternoon, for example. You’ll never make it to the second place. Or you will but you’ll be too tired to enjoy it.
1-2 places/day are enough. Trying to cram too much stuff into a day will ruin your trip, really.

I’m enjoying isle of arrows right now. Tower defense but instead of having a set map and same towers you get to draw cards and have to make do with what you get. Some cards give you pathing for the mobs, other expand the buildable area, others give you towers. Simple and fun.

I would, sure, but I’m not sure about the majority. Dunno… Most people are super uninformed and vote based on silly shit. They put less thought into it than they do into the stuff they buy at the supermarket. And most people don’t put much thought into that either, I was surprised to find out.
- Comment on Stay Mad 4 months ago:
Are you just making up people now to prove a point? Because that’s not an argument that I hear people making. Also it’s too late now and no other democrat could beat trump right now, unfortunately
- Comment on Stay Mad 4 months ago:
Like I said, people that think voting 3rd party in november aren’t gonna be swayed either.
- Comment on Stay Mad 4 months ago:
So you actually believe that after the elections are over when one of the two candidates will inevitably win that your 3rd party vote will have done anything other than the obvious 2 things? (Either nothing or just raise trump’s chance to win). If you actually care, the sensible thing to do is make everything possible to make sure trump doesn’t win then start protesting asap and doing everything in your power for the next 4 years to make sure you get more and better options.

Yes? Idiots are even easier to control than people you are blackmailing or paying off.
- Comment on Stay Mad 4 months ago:
There’s no good way to argue with trump supporters so this is the easiest, least brain damaging way. All the arguments have been beaten to death 10 times over. And those that still claim 3rd party votes in november will change anything for the better won’t be swayed either.

He was supposed to have a cellmate but didn’t have one that night. Guards were supposed to check in on him constantly but didn’t do it that night. The surveillance camera malfunctioned that night. He had broken bones in his neck that often break when you’re strangulated and rarely when hanging yourself.
You’re telling me that it’s more likely for these 4 events to happen at the same time than for someone rich and powerful to just pay a couple of people to have him killed?
- Comment on Looks like something straight from Warhammer 40K 4 months ago:
Yep, Christianity is filled with stuff like this and art. Most churches contain a decent amount of art. Most famous of all being the Sistine chapel, ofc. Found out this year about The Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran. Which is basically the Pope’s main church. Always assumed it would be the one in Vatican, but no, it’s a different one, in Rome. It’s a very impressive place. Huge statues. This being the best. St Bart is said to have been skinned alive, hence the knife and his face.

Yeah, I guess that’s fair. Religion and history are so intertwined when it comes to this subject that it’s easy to dismiss sources as biased, which is what’s happening here. Still not convinced they should be dismissed in this case

So instead of taking the glory for themselves like pretty much all other humans they decide to preach about an imaginary friend? Meh… Between “guy who got lost in history” and “bunch of guys that raved about that one gf that went to a different school”, I’ll go with the former as the more plausible one.
I’ll concede the fact that it’s not the same level of proof as other figures, but all these people writing about him is more than we have about others.
- Comment on Is there any real physical proof that Jesus christ ever existed? 4 months ago:
Ah, okay. But then we can’t really make a claim either way, can we? We don’t really know who he was or who he claimed to be.

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. John 8:58
Which is from one of the original 4 gospels. Apparently there’s evidence of it being written as early as 70AD. There’s a couple other quotes I found in a link some other person linked in this thread but this one seems most direct.

One simple one was one apostle saying Jesus told them to go barefoot and with no staff and another saying he told them staff + sandals.
