- Comment on Australia’s 3G Shutdown - Telcos to Block Working 4G/5G Phones! 1 month ago:
It sounds like if you bought your phone from Apple or Samsung or JBHIFI you are stuffed. Can’t believe it.
- Comment on How to cut your energy bills by 30 per cent with a heat pump 2 months ago:
In Australia, we have followed the British housing tradition and have really bad insulation too! We are working on fixing it but there is so much to retrofit.
- Comment on How to cut your energy bills by 30 per cent with a heat pump 2 months ago:
Sadly that was not the advice that they got.
- Comment on How to cut your energy bills by 30 per cent with a heat pump 2 months ago:
On the other hand, using a heat pump for replacing a hot water heater is definitely a good thing. Using a heat pump on an old water radiator system may not work well. Friends had to replace a gas heater for their water radiator system and were told that there wasn’t a heat pump unit hot enough for the retrofit.
- Comment on X caught blocking links to NPR, claiming the news site may be 'unsafe' 2 months ago:
I’m starting to think that social media sites of a certain size are more like common carriers (in the telecommunications sense) than news or discussion sites. As such they should be bound to deliver clear moderation and ensure that everyone able to be connected and communicate with in the clear rules. Ie. screw the algorithm and weird owner interference.

True, they can be hard to find.

That’s the same as writing tests for software code after writing the code. A mystery without end or reliability.
- Comment on Russian ransomware gangs account for 69% of all ransom proceeds 3 months ago:
I imagine Putin is happy to have his share. The main question is whether it’s to his bank account or to the Kremlin’s to help pay for the war.
- Comment on CrowdStrike’s faulty update crashed 8.5 million Windows devices, says Microsoft 3 months ago:
Normally I would agree however this doesn’t appear to be a Microsoft update but a CrowdStrike update. Given that everyone is worried about ransomware etc.

How many systems in the world’s military went down, you know in war machines of Russia and Israel and Ukraine?

- Comment on Congressman rebuked for call to bomb Gaza ‘like Nagasaki and Hiroshima’ 7 months ago:
He will be brought back into line by the oligarchs. There has already been talk of Gaza being prime beachfront land. They definitely don’t want it radioactive ☢️.
- Comment on Russia produced new school textbook that distorts the history of the war against Ukraine and urges teenagers to join the army 7 months ago:
I thought Russians referred to motherland not the fatherland. Is this a Putin shift?
- Comment on “We cannot support it:” Polestar follows Tesla out of car lobby over Toyota led campaign 8 months ago:
It’s amazing that catching up with the rest of the world and using safer more efficient technology already in use is so expensive and so difficult to implement. Who do they think we are, all LNP supporters?
- Comment on Facebook ate and then ignored the news industry. It's hard, but we should leave it be 8 months ago:
It’s one of the reasons I subscribe to a couple of news outlets, I value the news and someone needs to pay. Most people have forgotten that they used to “buy” newspapers, after all, everything is free on the internet.
- Comment on France uncovers a vast Russian disinformation campaign in Europe 9 months ago:
Disinformation or more accurately, lying, is Russian doctrine. Everything that they say seems to be a lie and designed to delay appropriate action.
- Comment on Project Kuiper: Amazon's answer to SpaceX's Starlink passes 'crucial' test 10 months ago:
Given that these low orbit spacecraft only last a few years before they deorbit, I wonder how long this incredibly expensive and climate destructive industry will last. Most industries try for low cost of ownership while this one seems to built in high maintenance.
- Comment on Just speak normally 11 months ago:
View it from their perspective, they all converse perfectly together because that’s how everyone told the time however other people want to change the rules. They aren’t being rude or impolite just using the system they grew up with.
- Comment on Just speak normally 11 months ago:
Just different and from a different school of thought. If you consider the convenience of conveying how close the time is to the hour, it’s actually a quick shorthand. I can see you don’t like it however it’s just the way people think of time. It’s not like they can’t do the math because if they have a digital clock they have to convert 9:45 into a quarter to 10. It’s the way they think about time.
- Comment on Just speak normally 11 months ago:
No it means that they grew up using a 12 hour, 60 minute circular time system. Habits form when you learn stuff and can last a lifetime.
- Comment on Just speak normally 11 months ago:
You probably grew up in the era of digital clocks and watches. If you used an analog watch you would know why it was easier to say a quarter to 10. 😁
- Comment on Google witness accidentally blurts out that Apple gets 36% cut of Safari deal 1 year ago:
Apparently companies like to deal with Google because it has a superior search engine. That’s why users use it. What companies like is the adware hooks. Time to use DuckDuckGo and Firefox.

Sounds like a very expensive argument to invest billions on the hope that something might happen 😬. Hope it’s not my money.

The SMNR format suffers from being small and therefore difficult to be cost effective and that renewables are 4 times as cheap. Not easy to make money in this environment. cleantechnica.com/…/nuclear-energy-free-market-ca…

I don’t think we care in Australia. The design rules are pretty much behind the pack, so much so that we run the risk of being the dumping ground for 3rd world vehicles.
- Comment on Qantas chairman Richard Goyder to stand down in next 12 months, as the airline tries to rebuild its reputation 1 year ago:
Everyone is probably sad for him so they will be keen to see he gets a golden handshake too as befits a member of the ruling elite. Never mind the reputation damage.
