- Comment on The Coalition’s attack on the climate authority is a cynical attempt to put ideology over facts – it must be called out | Kylea Tink 4 days ago:
Politicians are generally loose with the truth but the LNP really take it to a nasty level of lying. It all seems to be about winning the election however it really is about setting up an agenda for radical gutting of our society.
It’s wishful thinking but they may have committed a Shorten manoeuvre where they scare the electorate.

Time to block Meta. That and Twitter.
- Comment on US threatens to shut off Starlink if Ukraine won't sign minerals deal, sources tell Reuters 1 week ago:
Can’t believe that they are actually dependent on Starlink given that Musk is a Russian sympathiser.

How about heating up a soldering iron outside, turnoff and unplug then take it in and use the residual heat?

The sad thing is that this was all telegraphed and baked into the platform. If people are kicking themselves now, it’s too late.

I don’t understand, why pass laws when everything else is done with executive orders. How can you have a proper coup if halfwits have to pass laws?

- Comment on flouride 3 months ago:
Interesting. The article doesn’t actually say that fluoridation in water supplies is dangerous but that some researchers are questioning. Generally code for lack of scientific evidence. It also finds that early studies may have had a flawed basis (pretty much all early studies have been found wanting by later scientists) but doesn’t refute the results. The study mentioned in the article talks about high levels of fluoridation which I assume is in lab tests however these levels are not the case in water supplies.
The correct way forward is more actual science based studies.

- Comment on How to cut your energy bills by 30 per cent with a heat pump 5 months ago:
In Australia, we have followed the British housing tradition and have really bad insulation too! We are working on fixing it but there is so much to retrofit.
- Comment on How to cut your energy bills by 30 per cent with a heat pump 5 months ago:
Sadly that was not the advice that they got.
- Comment on How to cut your energy bills by 30 per cent with a heat pump 5 months ago:
On the other hand, using a heat pump for replacing a hot water heater is definitely a good thing. Using a heat pump on an old water radiator system may not work well. Friends had to replace a gas heater for their water radiator system and were told that there wasn’t a heat pump unit hot enough for the retrofit.
- Comment on X caught blocking links to NPR, claiming the news site may be 'unsafe' 5 months ago:
I’m starting to think that social media sites of a certain size are more like common carriers (in the telecommunications sense) than news or discussion sites. As such they should be bound to deliver clear moderation and ensure that everyone able to be connected and communicate with in the clear rules. Ie. screw the algorithm and weird owner interference.

I imagine Putin is happy to have his share. The main question is whether it’s to his bank account or to the Kremlin’s to help pay for the war.

Normally I would agree however this doesn’t appear to be a Microsoft update but a CrowdStrike update. Given that everyone is worried about ransomware etc.

- Comment on Facebook ate and then ignored the news industry. It's hard, but we should leave it be 11 months ago:
It’s one of the reasons I subscribe to a couple of news outlets, I value the news and someone needs to pay. Most people have forgotten that they used to “buy” newspapers, after all, everything is free on the internet.
