I don’t know about that, I wouldn’t want to play a fighting game with standard keyboard. An ergonomic keyboard could work though. FIn any case from what I’ve seen those guys either play with a gamepad or an arcade stick.

Don’t forget about RTS, MMO and some CRPG.
- Comment on ...is this retro? 2 weeks ago:
These two cases aren’t the same though. Doom built a whole new genre by building on Wolf 3D’s foundation, it just didn’t have a name at the time. Very few 90s fps games actually play like Doom, or even try to. They all got their own thing going.
GTA clones definitely wanted to be like GTA, I can tell by just looking at them. I haven’t any GTA inspired games besides Retro City Rampage so I don’t know which titles in particular deserve to be seen as knockoffs but they were out there.
- Comment on ...is this retro? 2 weeks ago:
I think what killed the traditional console are the hardware progression and the decline of physical games. In 90s consoles had very different specs that gave them specialty. When you bought one it deteremined what kind of game library you would have access to, not just a few exclusives. And playing them was super convenient, you popped in your cartridge or disk and you were good to go.
Neither of those things exist today. While the console form factor still has value, there is no justification for the closed ecosystems around them in my opinion.

In my opinion, no. For me it’s not about time, 360 for the most part plays just like any other present day console. Only difference is that development and marketing budgets went out of control (a trend that was already underway during later seventh generation), and the relentless stream of CoD, Halo and GTA clones stopped (THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT).

Steam Nextfest became probably the most exciting gaming event thanks to the sheer abundance of demos. It’s amazing.

We still have demos, on Steam anyway.

Yup, I wonder if that’s HDMI Forum’s fault though. I hear they are insufferable.

I think an evergreen 8 bit system can be great for gaming an a tight budget. But whater this system will appeal to enough people to justify indefinite support or if the team is even capable of delivering this product remains to be seen.
- Comment on Is the Atari Jaguar worth playing in 2025 !? 3 months ago:
There is just nothing to see in Jaguar’s library. The high quality emulator it finally got is more valuable for preservation than for actual gaming.
- Comment on Which game would you erase from your memory, in order to experience it fresh once again? 3 months ago:
Celeste is a good contender, Hades II as well.
- Comment on Serious Sam 2 was just updated after 20 years in celebration of its anniversary 4 months ago:
That doesn’t say much honestly. Three was a repurposed generic military shooter, four showed potential but fell short (maybe they fixed it since then).
- Comment on 15,000 Retro Gamers Voted And Chose The Best Retro Handheld Of All Time 4 months ago:
I think the number of games ported over from the 16 bit era gives that impression. GBA didn’t even get it’s own Mario game, they just released the All-Stars versions of classic games, which I get was super cool at the time but still.
But yes, GBA was a very capable machine. GBA could run Doom with a smooth framerate, SNES couldn’t. Not to mention the stuff like Driv3r, Asterix or even GTA Advance.

From what I hear an HDR OLED loaded up with Sony Megatron and CRT beam simulator can get very close.

They should copy the touch controls setup uf Magic Dosbox. Infact, every emulator with touch controls should do that.

I can’t stop playing Enter the Gungeon, this is a cry for help. /hj
Also I decided to try Flashback again (Genesis version). This game always seemed really cool but I never progressed far on it since it’s so unlike anything else from the era.

- Comment on What's *your* favorite way to play old games? 5 months ago:
For me the ideal way to enjoy retro consoles would be a SBC with RetroPie connected to a HDR 4k OLED TV with raster scan emulation. As it stands though I have a 1080p IPS monitor with regular old RetroArch. It’s nice, but I hope one day I can afford the most baller setup.
- Comment on [deleted] 5 months ago:
That probably wouldn’t have come out well. I remember hearing that they were rushing super hard to get the game out, to the point they’ve halved the amount of chapters in the game. GBA release resulted in a more complete game that visually aged better.

I should get back to that, I only played a little of it but I remember enjoying it.

I don’t know, I don’t own a VR headset. But I never heard anyone talk about it negatively. Apparently the gameplay is rather restricted since it’s supossed to be a beginner’s VR game but that’s about it.
- Comment on A 2003 complaint about Half Life 2 6 months ago:
People really liked Half-Life Alyx so whoever is in the development team is still capable of making a game people love. Though, ultimately, whether a hypotetical release of Half-Life 3 could live up to the hype or not is irrelevant since no such game will ever be released.
- Comment on A 2003 complaint about Half Life 2 6 months ago:
New ones are still being made. I can’t give specific examples since I don’t play Half-Life mods but I’m sure you can find some pretty cool stuff by looking around.

There are Retro City Rampage and Shakedown Hawaii on the indie side. They rely on 80s and 90s nostalgia quite heavily but at least RCR was really fun to play, I didn’t play the other one yet.
