Its locally hosted including the model and the runtime. You can have your program open up a server and bind ports locally if you want to run your own server and not just a desktop GUI.

Maybe there is confusion in what I am saying. Yes. That is not ChatGPT’s API:
What I mean is - it literally has an API server you can run yourself if you want to programmatically talk to it. Here is a screenshot of the menu option.

I hope so. I don’t plan on renewing my iphone for awhile, I like pixels open firmware stuff with graphene and even just Android. But I hate carrying around the extra special apple cable
- Comment on All smartphones, including iPhones, must have replaceable batteries by 2027 in the EU 1 year ago:
USB C has been pushed for at least four years now. No it does not have a good track record.
Maybe Google is nice enough to comply. Fair! But apples larger and doesn’t. Which speaks volumes. You know what I mean? It’s ironic because USA does nothing about it…at all. But it’s unfortunate because every iPhone still uses that crappy lightning cable and AFAIK I read something saying they make $200m a year on accessories like those cables and adapters.

I see something like this every few years.EU has to make a fine so heavy that it’s impossible to just pay as a tax of doing business.
Unless that’s all it really is.

Insomnia.rest generally is my tool: github.com/Kong/insomnia
Thunder Client if you like to keep all the relevant requests n data inside the project directory, probably good for teams: open-vsx.org/extension/…/vscode-thunder-client
With VS-Codium (vscode with the microsoft telemetry scraped out): vscodium.com
- Comment on Why you shouldn't use Brave Browser 1 year ago:
I’m not sure if you mean to say people like me arguing to separate patrons, artists and the art - especially where this is open source - or people like the writer of the article in the OP.
So I’ll speak to it from both ends: people naturally want to vote with their time and money. If money is seeing ads and generating crypto for someone they don’t support; fine. I think everyone understands where they’re coming from. On the other hand I can google github + project-name for brave and find all the code and fork it…if you don’t like something about brave just fork it or use a stripped down fork.
I don’t use brave to begin with but the public executions are fucking obnoxious when the product hasn’t taken a unilateral shift in direction. Twitter and Reddit were proprietary platform you were locked in for if you used them daily. There was never an alternative way to use those products in their full functionality; both had to be 100% recreated on mastodon/lemmy. If you don’t like Brave’s CEO you can literally fork the project, remove the shit you don’t like and use the work for free.
- Comment on Why you shouldn't use Brave Browser 1 year ago:
the hateful browser
Holy shit man imagine if we judged every huge project by one asshole at the top. There wouldn’t be a single thing to enjoy in this world.
- Comment on The creator of Pixelfed announced an upcoming encrypted messenger for the fediverse that will work across the fediverse 1 year ago:
This year. I gave it a VPS with plenty of cores and memory too. It’s like once I got it working it would work for awhile right, nbd. But then when I’d join a federated room over on matrix.org it would literally take days to add it. I even smoke tested it with their federation tester.
The lockout I’m describing is like an auth bug. The moment you sign in in a couple different places it has trouble unencrypting messages and even if you verify the other devices identity it will act like it’s still unrecognized, and delete messages. It happened to my girlfriend, then my friend, then me. Twice in two separate attempts to use it daily. I tried using it as a complete iMessage replacement across all platforms so I’m saying I was using it heavily.
And yeah I used docker too. It’s a neat concept it just falls apart at scale from what I’ve literally seen twice. Doesn’t matter what client I used either.

Oh god matrix is such a bitch to handle and deal with, laggy and just in need of so much work. I’ll be so happy to have an alternative.
I used it and hosted it for months with friends and family and we all got locked out due to bugs and had neighboring federated servers that wouldn’t connect.
- Comment on FBI Seizure of Mastodon Server is a Wakeup Call to Fediverse Users and Hosts to Protect their Users 1 year ago:
This says that the server was grabbed during an unrelated raid?
How is that even legal. You can just get seized because your neighbor in the server rack is doing something? I feel like that should be a lawsuit for taking down someone’s business essentially. I’ll be real with you it doesn’t matter if the shits encrypted or not - in 15-20 years if Feds hold onto your messages trivial or not, with their budget and resources they can probably crack hashed data, if Quantum computing comes online especially, where quantum was stuck in a state of laughable doubt just like ML or AI was eight years back.

I should write a survival guide to Linux. Its okay to have a differing opinion man. My advice is just don’t go seeking out the hornets nest and know when to read the room. I saw some garbage earlier today that was borderline racist ironically from a left POV and I just left it alone.
Gotta know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em. The beauty of the fediverse is that everyone gets a total democracy in bans, where they’ll sign up, etc and its a two way street.
- Comment on Google's trying to DRM the internet, and we have to make sure they fail 1 year ago:
Sigh. Whoever they have working in their DRM department has been an asshole for a long time now.
This is what the third or fourth - minimum - thing like this they’ve tried to pass in a few years? I actually like Google as a product family but every time they do this it hits me right in the “maybe I should reconsider” department. Its also usually met with a hard resounding no from everyone. Maybe its that they have a task force that is paid well to protect their ad interests and recover some sort of deficit they see in their ad product.
I donate to the EFF to fight things like this at a professional level…also good to point out though that its not just google’s fault. If they build a moat for businesses and everyone installs one, that is everyone’s fault.

What if I told you reddits antiwork was basically a glimpse of everything we’re seeing on far left Lemmy. Lemmy just doesn’t have a honeymoon stage for it.

Maybe. I feel like I like scrolling lemmy a lot more and I get that old reddit vibe of “lets go scrolling” pretty often. I’m excited to chat about whatever on here.

I got a “who asked” amongst more productive banter this morning and I actually laughed and said “thank god, people can talk without a filter”.
I’m okay with some stuff being toxic. Reddits moderation rules were so restricting that you couldn’t have a genuine conversation or sometimes just post something that was clearly originally intended to be posted to a sub; moderation was too tight.
Freedom of speech shouldn’t be inconvenienced by a fedora wearing subreddit mod. And if one Lemmy instance does, there’s others you can enjoy!

Yeah you’re right. I’ll think about that.
There might be some solutions for this.

I’ve been playing a lot of rainbow six siege quick play and call of duty MW2’s DMZ game modes. I feel like one gives me the tactical fair shooter, and the other gives me a meaningfully paced combat loop.
Im a little pissed that the battle pass for diablo 4 doesn’t work with my regular character. I just feel so estranged from that game since it costed so much and the combat and tasks just felt so dry. I guess the upside is that I have 90 days of the pass to hack away at it which isn’t terribly pressing. I just wish their monetization strategy was like Halo Infinites battle passes where you could choose which one to progress on.

I keep seeing this, I’m really tempted to try out Dave the diver.

I don’t think enough folks even know what Lemmy is.
I have a product I’m trying to build and will be launching shortly to allow folks easy access to their own lemmy servers and I plan on running some ad campaigns.
