- Comment on Amazon Prime Video won't offer Dolby Vision and Atmos on its ad-supported plan | The company is now facing a lawsuit over its decision to charge $3 more for ad-free viewing. 9 months ago:
Just cancelled my prime subscription today. It was set to renew on Friday. I’ve been with prime for close to 10 years.
I don’t see any value. The price has nearly doubled since originally signing up. The free two day shipping was nice but more and more 2 days is 3-4 and I can get free shipping anyway on any order over $35 without prime so I’ll just build up my cart and be patient or order from another place.
The video content was nice but they’re fucking joking if they think I’m going to watch ads or pay $3 more per month to not have ads. I can easily pirate most content including live sports and they’re making it far less convenient to be part of their ecosystem.
I get my books from the library and store my photos locally.
The literal only downside i see is my buddy won’t get his twitch prime subscription from me every month so I guess I’m costing him like $2/month but he’s got several hundred so he’ll do without.
- Comment on Steam has a new hit game, and it’s Pokémon with guns 9 months ago:
Just got done playing about 3 hours via game pass and it is quite fun.
It is much more a survival game than pokemon. You put your pokemon (called ‘Pals’) to work on what is essentially your farm. It is much more a survival game as you are always looking for resources and crafting the next thing for your homestead. I have yet to shoot a gun, currently rocking a spear, bow and arrow, pick axe (for mining), and axe (for chopping wood).
I have ventured off my base twice and you do come across a wide variety of creatures once you venture far enough and there are small towns, people, many creatures, and more materials the further out you traverse. There appears to be ‘bosses’ as there are marked high level creatures and even gangs that will occasionally raid your base.
I could see myself sinking a lot of time into it as it does take a bit to get your base running smoothly to generate the needed materials without too much manual work on your part.
You have a party of 5 creatures but can only have one out at a time. You start with another creature at your base working and as you level gain more slots for more creatures to work for you. It’s kinda funny because you basically beat the shit out of these creatures, capture them, and then put them to work at your base.
All in all I hope development continues to expand on this game as it’s got a solid foundation and I’m not generally someone attracted to survival type games. I’m looking forward to continuing to level up and see what the game has to offer.

Interesting. I hadn’t seen that. Dude looked like he was on some kind of upper but the supercut didn’t do him any favors.
- Comment on Skyrim has over double the daily users as Starfield 10 months ago:
Not too surprising. I would expect consoles to reflect the same player ratio. I really wanted to love Starfield but I never felt that ‘magic’ like I did with Skyrim and Fallout. There was a dude who encapsulated my feelings towards Skyrim perfectly: youtube.com/shorts/CJ7tsL47KRw?si=pdXaCAkc8ui8aPh… I could just stop and soak in the ambiance for so long. I am 13 years older and maybe that’s part of it but I never felt that draw with Starfield.

That’s really cool. I already foresee Americans intentionally breaking them and finding ways for people to get their phones stuck in there to be assholes and for internet likes.

What a great piece of storytelling. Those doors opening and seeing all those guns pointed at you. “Guess I’m going to have to commit genocide” was my first thought quickly followed by “oh no, wait, what’s happening!?”

I’ve had a few drivers do this in the US and it has always been a huge cost savings. Uber gives a smaller and smaller cut the the drivers from what I’m hearing. I miss the early days when rides were cheap, driver kept the lions share of the fare and no one was expected to tip.

Also you can add or remove features you like/dislike which is a big benefit.

Our immune systems are both one of the most fascinating things about us and for those with autoimmune issues like myself, the most annoying. Always good to see articles like this and I’m glad this focused on the actual science.
I’d love to sign up for the trial if they ever test it for vitiligo. There are wayyy more serious autoimmune issues that can and should be tested first for those truly suffering. Mine is just “hey look at weird color boy”.
- Comment on Outlook junk mail 1 year ago:
It probably took me 2 years to migrate fully. I forward most things. Reality is 95% of emails are pointless spam.
- Comment on Outlook junk mail 1 year ago:
So I’ve noticed spam comes in waves. My gmail account will go months and be more or less fine and then in a period of a week I’ll get several dozen spam emails like “HoMe DePoT PoWeR DrIlL WiNnER” and the like. I always report spam and block.
My hotmail account on the other hand. I stopped checking and migrated every important account to gmail because I was getting spamming by the dozen every single day.

- Comment on Games to play while waiting for release 1 year ago:
Use your meele. I had trouble with it too until I experimented with fighting styles. You need to close the gap quickly, I used the forward launch thing, then meele him which almost completely breaks his shield, then you have 5 seconds or so to get as much damage on him until his shields come back. Rinse and repeat. Keep distance and hide while your abilities reload and keep an eye on your energy, if it depletes, you’re screwed. Also don’t forget you have three med packs.
- Comment on Study: Carbon offsets aren’t doing their job, overstate impact 1 year ago:
All I’ve seen since carbon offsets became a thing is how a lot of the projects were either ineffective or outright scams. The idea itself doesn’t incentivise the large carbon producers to actually reduce their emissions, but simply pay to say they are carbon neutral so they can slap it on their website for some positive pr.

- Comment on Are American tv shows stuck in Act 2 for their entire runtime between season 1 and final season? 1 year ago:
You see that a lot for sure. One show that stands out in my mind of continually moving the plot forward is Breaking Bad. The ‘villain’ changes throughout the show, Walt has an evolving relationship with Skylar and Walt Jr, and motives change as well for Walt and Jesse. Completely different show from beginning to end.
SPOILER: it’s a well known fact that season 1 was shortened due to the last writers strike and had that not happened Jesse would have been killed off at the end of the season. This show very well could have suffered the same fate OP prescribes to most shows since Jesse is so pivotal to the shows overall success. So maybe we should look for shows who’s first season is currently being cut short by this writer’s strike and that will be the next great show.
