- Comment on Nvidia might not have any new gaming GPUs in 2026 — and could be 'slashing production' of existing GeForce models 12 hours ago:
Yeah, luckily in Australia, we are getting Chinese stuff without massive tariffs.
I see BYD cars everywhere.
- Comment on Nvidia might not have any new gaming GPUs in 2026 — and could be 'slashing production' of existing GeForce models 1 day ago:
These Chinese are catching up very quickly on GPUs, RAM, etc.
This would be a massive own goal for the existing incumbents.

I’m assuming there must be downtime for maintenance and quality checks.

Oil prices are already plunging.
Supply is about 5 million barrels per day more than demand.
- Comment on AI companies will fail. We can salvage something from the wreckage | Cory Doctorow 2 weeks ago:
The last bailout was required because the banking system was the artery of the economy.
As irresponsible as they were, they needed to be functional to allow the economy to function.
It is hard to see how the government can afford to bailout the “AI” sector.
It is also not critical to the economy. In fact, you could argue the bubble is costing the economy in terms of opportunity costs, increased energy prices, consumer prices for laptops, hard drives, etc.
My view is while they may want to bailout their tech bros friends, I’m not sure it is possible.

You reckon they will just promise Trump to buy lots of oil but then do nothing like their soybean promise?
- Comment on This CEO laid off nearly 80% of his staff because they refused to adopt AI fast enough. 2 years later, he says he’d do it again 3 weeks ago:
Private Equity is finding it increasingly difficult to offload the companies they have taken over.
With some luck, this dickhead will go broke.

- Comment on China's first real gaming GPU is here, and the benchmarks are brutal 4 weeks ago:
More competition for AMD and NVIDIA, the better.
I wouldn’t expect the first domestic Chinese GPU to be great but hopefully they keep iterating and get better and better.
- Comment on Moral Panic and Australia’s Under-16 Social Media Ban: A Critical Youth Work Perspective 4 weeks ago:
I don’t have a problem with a social media ban on young people in theory.
We have multiple studies which show the negative impacts on young people of social media.
My issue is how such a law is implemented. It requires mass collection of user data and surveillance.

- Comment on Everyday AI looks more like the '08 housing bubble 3 months ago:
Production must equal Consumption plus investment.
An excess of production leads to companies closing down.
Reducing consumption (via getting rid of workers, reducing wages, etc.) will lead to an imbalance that must correct itself.
This can be forestalled by private debt, government debt or exporting the surplus but this is unsustainable.

- Comment on Cloudflare Tunnel? 3 months ago:
It is strange.
The only reason people who use Pangolin is to have control over the tunnel rather than rely on a company.
- Comment on Cloudflare Tunnel? 4 months ago:
I heard you can use Pangolin and self host your own tunnel.
Haven’t looked into it.

- Comment on How Much Energy Does It Take to Power Billions of AI Queries? 4 months ago:
Sooner.
None of these AI applications are making money and unlike earlier IT companies (Amazon, Google search, social media site, etc ), the marginal cost of each additional user isn’t near zero.
They are having to invest hundreds of billions to cope with demand for applications which lose money on each use.
It’s a $50 billion dollar industry priced as a trillion dollar industry.
