- Comment on Microsoft has pulled back on over a gigawatt of planned data center capacity, suggesting that they do not think there is a growth future in generative AI 6 days ago:
Really? That’s disappointing.
I was hoping for more credible people to be pointing out the wank that is generative AI.

- Comment on what is your opinion on mastodon and other fediverse microblogging sites?? as opposed to forum-type websites 2 months ago:
phpBB was the best.
The old forums I frequent have all seen their activity drop, which is sad.
I prefer the smaller forums centred around common interests. I made a load of friends through those forums.
I quit reddit recently and it occurred to me that after 10 years, I didn’t make a single friend on reddit.

All these solutions (tax breaks, etc.) don’t appear to fix the more fundamental problem of it is too expensive to have a kid, work / life balance does not allow it and homes are too expensive.

Of course not.
- Comment on Stack Overflow bans users en masse for rebelling against OpenAI partnership — users banned for deleting answers to prevent them being used to train ChatGPT 9 months ago:
These companies don’t realise their most engaged users generate a disproportionate amount of their content.
They will just go to their own spaces.
I think this a good thing in the long run, the internet will become decentralised again.

- Comment on Google layoffs: Sundar Pichai-led company fires entire Python team for ‘cheaper labour’ 10 months ago:
For shareholders, he has increased the share price and dividends.
It seems he has done this via Boeing route of management, short term gain for long term decline.

I still visit smaller subreddits when looking up technical fixes (like unraid) but I no longer post and got rid of all my old posts.
Hopefully as Lemmy grows, I can leave that shithole for good.
