Wonder where we got it from…
Well, sometimes I wonder why half of Africa speaks French… so I get your point. Sorry for that…
There are other holidays when schools or some other establishments might be closed but banks are open.
Are they still called bank holidays or do they have another name?
- Comment on Babe, wake up. Polls are open 4 months ago:
I understand, but I’m kind of stuck by what’s implied. Like “money doesn’t make money today so everyone can stay home because the bank decides”
In France they are called “jour férié” from the old French “foirié”, literally “fair day”
- Comment on Babe, wake up. Polls are open 4 months ago:
As a French I only learned recently from a Londoner coworker how you call your national days off.
“Bank holidays”
Why?
Anyway, good luck from the bottom of my heart.

She’s fighting against the Zipf law. VSauce made a nice video about it years ago. Popular books being more exposed lead to popular books being even more sold hence more popular, leading even less space for new books.
- Comment on If one conjoined twin commits a murder without the consent of their twin, will both have to go to prison or nobody? 6 months ago:
I think it should depend on the conjoined twin capacity to prevent the murder.
If he had enough control over the body but didn’t try to stop the murder he should be at least held a little responsible.
If he wouldn’t have been able to prevent the murder then he’s just a witness and shouldn’t be put in jail no matter what.
And now I wonder what would happen if the conjoined twin could be sentenced to death.

Second run female V. Discovered the game this year because I play it on Mac (using Whisky) and it wasn’t possible before.
I am not a gamer (as you can tell by my computer’s brand) as I really struggle to find games I want to invest time into. I’m too old to enjoy the thrill of dying 20 times in a row to kill a boss (been a WoW hard player for a few years, but mostly for the lore when it was still great) so I play easy mode and enjoy each and every bit of dialogue I can.
This game is one of the best Sci-Fi movie I’ve seen in years. Sometimes it makes me feel like I’m in 1982’s Blade Runner, waiting for Rutger Hauer to make an appearance. I already met Daryl Hannah and Sean Young (or very resembling characters at least).
Anyway, I don’t care much that the launch was terrible. I’m just glad the game exists.
PS: As a Metalhead myself, the only things I dislike about the game is Johnny’s band stuff. The game’s music is absolute dope though.

I wish I could play a game where I could talk in real time instead of click, prepare attacks with my generals before the battle and settle a strategy, and where the fastest tabber-clicker is not the one who always wins.
Why? Because I’m getting old, that’s why, and anyone who ever played a competitive RTS knows exactly what it means.

In the end it’s a matter of taste but I personally prefer true Champagne Brut and Extra Brut as they offer a more dry mineral flavor, compared to other Champagne like beverages.
But as a French I think it’s really important to respect the idea of “terroir”. I’m Ok with using champagnisation process to create Champagne like beverages, but Champagne is Champagne, from the French region of Champagne.
Now, is it overpriced? Absolutely.
- Comment on ohhh 6 months ago:
As a French dude from North of France myself I can only say that Champagne is totally overrated. It’s basically white wine that is bottled with a spoon of cane sugar syrup and then fermented again. I’d rather drink red wine, or cider when I’m in the mood for bubbles (I fucking love cider). And of course, beer.
Now regarding the post, I fucking love bread too.

If you ask a 40+ year old maybe…
Content creators are flying away to TikTok or Snapchat. Gamers are on Twitch, discord etc.
My nephew is 11 yo and has never watched content on YT.
- Comment on As a long-time user hearing YouTube wants to play ads when I pause a video 6 months ago:
Unfortunately, YouTube exists because content creators make money out of the ads.
But free content video is possible with a peer to peer protocol. The content creator get the responsibility to keep the seed alive. The more popular, the more it gets shared, the more it’s available.
But content creators don’t work for free, and public libraries don’t have the resources to store all the dumb content people deem necessary to make.
Reminder: give money to Wikipedia. This thing is a miracle.
- Comment on As a long-time user hearing YouTube wants to play ads when I pause a video 6 months ago:
What’s less sustainable is centralized web. You must know that since you work for Amazon, right?
When PopcornTime was still a thing you could watch adfree any movie you’d like even in 4K because resources were shared through peer to peer.
Now, YouTube gets up to 12$ RPM, content creators get maybe 40% of that. With 2 prerolls and 2 midrolls + banners they get plenty enough money to make things work. Google has the most aggressive VASTs of the market. They are everywhere, called multiple times per pages.
Spare us your tears.
Besides, no significant competition? Is that a joke?

I am interested in what tools are missing on Linux that exist on macOS?
-
iOS development tools for starter.
-
A good enough WebKit browser for Technical acceptance testing
-
Ollama, LM Studio, for easy connection between Visual Studio and a local LLM
-
Visual Studio (The IDE, not the Editor)
-
Quality of life Apps
macOS isn’t Unix and doesn’t contain Unix code en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin_(operating_system)
“Darwin is mostly POSIX-compatible, but has never, by itself, been certified as compatible with any version of POSIX. Starting with Leopard, macOS has been certified as compatible with the Single UNIX Specification version 3”
macOS also can’t just run all Linux applications. That’s nonsense. It doesn’t use the Linux kernel or its APIs and ABIs.
There are tons of ways to run Linux software on macOS maketecheasier.com/ways-run-linux-software-mac/
Now, can I talk to someone who actually knows what he’s talking about?

I do ML stuff on my Mac that even the most expensive RTX 4090 could dream of being able to do, because of a buttload of shared memory
As a developer I’ve been missing most of my tools on Linux, and the OS is just catching up.
Friendly remember that macOS is a Unix system that can run any Linux software, meaning that anything done on Linux can be done on macOS.
Proton makes Linux a perfectly fine gaming platform, with sometimes even better performance on Proton than native Windows…
Anyway Windows sucks, that we can agree on
