They’re really upset we keep organising protests about things they don’t want protests about.
Like climate or g-cide.
Much better to sabotage or intimidate them in the organisation phase.
Silly plebs should trust in Keir.

- Comment on Microsoft AI CEO pushes back against critics after recent Windows AI backlash — "the fact that people are unimpressed ... is mindblowing to me" 2 weeks ago:
“Fake it till you make it” is a time-tested business strategy.
Especially when you’re considered too big to fail.
And also when you don’t consider survivor bias when trying to “learn” from the success stories of the past.

They’ve all got so much invested in AI that they’re not going to back off.
Any kind of acknowledgement of failure might pop the bubble.
- Comment on Introducing SlopStop: Community-driven AI slop detection in Kagi Search 2 weeks ago:
I wasn’t talking about kagi, I was saying staying “off google” doesn’t mean you aren’t being tracked.
- Comment on Introducing SlopStop: Community-driven AI slop detection in Kagi Search 2 weeks ago:
Its a good start but you’re probably being tracked by your credit card, supermarket loyalty card, TV, operating systems and any ring camera you happen to walk past.
Also I think a lot of supermarkets are trying out facial recognition for “security” reasons. But probably they’re watching how you walk and shop etc.
Thinking you can avoid it completely is bold. Data data poisoning is (maybe) the only way to break even with the data companies.
- Comment on Introducing SlopStop: Community-driven AI slop detection in Kagi Search 2 weeks ago:
I’ve got a bit of cash for services I want to support, and I only use it as a good search engine. None of the customisation stuff. No AI.
And I find it worth it.
- Comment on (Pseudo) Science 2 weeks ago:
I can only imagine the enormous defamation lawsuit the manufacturers are preparing behind the scenes.
I imagine that it’s possible they’re waiting for either RFK or Trump to not be in power any more, as that inproves the chances of a success (and also not getting the “woke beer” trestment).
The loss of earnings portion of the lawsuit could end up in the billions.
- Comment on Trump's Big Beautiful Bill 3 weeks ago:
Trump’s been spending a lot of time and effort to have us not look at these files.
At the very least when gifted the files he’s been trying to distract us from, we should take a look.
And then perhaps take some time to revel in their contents ;)

I know my guy’s barks pretty well.
He’s super vocal though so I’ve had time to learn.
He’s got a kind of honk that’s for initiating play.
A polite “buf” that’s an attention/request noise (though it can intensify with agitation).
And then a smorgasbord of stress or demand barks that can blur together a bit but often can be worked out in combination with frequency and body language.
Plus also the manic “that’s my purse. I don’t know you.” He reserves for when he hears anything like a dog near our house.
- Comment on Nearly 90% of Windows Games now run on Linux, latest data shows — as Windows 10 dies, gaming on Linux is more viable than ever 5 weeks ago:
I’ve yet to find a game that I couldn’t play (though knowing me I probably forgot one or two). It’s mainly mods that I’ve not been able to implement, as some of them require running an exe file.
However I’ve had very helpful people tell me I can do all that in a wine instance or something similar so mainly it’s just my own laziness (and lack of understanding about how to “do it in a wine instance”) that’s holding me back from installing fancy modpacks or playing the latest Stalker gamma version.
Also i don’t play multiplayer stuff so the anti-cheat thing issues don’t usually apply to me. So there’s that.

Any ads that aren’t “this product is available” and designed to get you to do things against your best interest.
“Use us instead of a competitor”
“Please associate this product with this idealised version of yourself (or your life)”
Maybe this is just me projecting my trauma after finishing Mad Men.
Bu also maybe not.

Yeah, it’s something that’s super useful about humans.
They’re very durable, and can follow instructions effectively.
They make excellent slaves, compared to other forms of life.
For me, that’s the resource aliens would invade us for.
It’s us.

I once went to set some IT stuff up at a large tabloid company’s office.
Their security was nuts. Gates and badges and goons everywhere.
Because they’re allowed to invade your privacy and bother you, but you are absolutely not allowed to return the favour.

There is technically a difference in the definition, but mostly people use it exactly as you’re describing.
I’ve really had to catch myself when I notice myself using it.
But honestly it’s so expected that people can get confused when you call yourself an immigrant (and you aren’t doing it to make yourself a martyr somehow).

This is very similar to his playing of fortunate son.

~(Or more likely, he never watched the movie).~
I just realised he doesn’t make these himself (or come up with them). But still. Asshole.

He’s pretty untouchable.
Every government thinks AI is the next gold/oil rush and whoever gets to be the “AI country” will become excruciatingly rich.
That’s why they’re being given IP exemptions and all sorts of legal loopholes are being attempted/ set up for them.

They will for sure use things like phobias/weaknesses to psychologically influence you to get you out of their way.

They for sure won’t get hold of any notes about medical conditions (or god forbid, notes from your therapist) and use them against you if you opposed them.
- Comment on 7 years later, Valve's Proton has been an incredible game-changer for Linux 3 months ago:
I’ve been using mint exclusively for like 3 months and have been using a hearty blend of terminal installs and the program manager app.
It seems to not have caused any problems YET, but I’ve been assured it will. I see flatpack conversations a lot and don’t fully understand the differences (apart from the install method).
Is it worth understanding and committing to a single system or can I just be a low-power user for a while?
