It’d be weird after half a century of tv, if suddenly in the 2010s it somehow escalated all the self harm/suicide stats.
- Comment on I'm a US citizen, people in other countries, what do you think when you read stories like these about the US health care system? 2 months ago:
I just feel bad for y’all. Most Americans I’ve met are at least nice people who probably deserve healthcare.

A multi national change where people can purchase weapons and use them as impliments of domestic terrorism is a keyword? How utterly unsurprising.
- Comment on Where are the good political songs? 3 months ago:
Well, not sure about “good” but punk is and always has been about politics.
Personally, I love the folk punk end of things like AJJ’s ‘Normalization Blues’: youtu.be/0EDVM73bU-w?si=_mtGGyFhrmeMRlpZ
In a similar vein, Matt Pless’s “where the frayed wind blows” is 5 minutes of angry goodness.
There’s also a lot of protest hip hop but I don’t know the newer stuff particularly well.

CS50 covers pointers, objects, classes etc and will give you a solid foundation. Fully recommend though, fair warning, it’s challenging. Tideman nearly crushed my soul.

Gotta love the “everyone I disagree with is a shill/bootlicker” playbook.
And my local mosque isn’t the sole representation for all Muslims, but if I falsely claimed they advocated rape, I’d be being pretty bigoted.

At least be consistent; you got annoyed when I pointed out that the articles you posted show that rape is absolutely not an Israeli government position. But this comment takes the opposite tack.
As you grow up, hopefully you’ll learn that reality is a thing and not just whatever suits the argument at hand.
Bye.

And to your larger point, you are welcome to create your own server or community and allow whomever to say whatever they’d like, regardless of how bigoted or incorrect they might be!
As many have said, this isn’t a fediverse problem, nor is it a suggestion to improve the fediverse, this is a you complaining about mods doing what the commubity expects of them.
Have a good night.

So if someone commits a crime, fair to accuse them of all crimes?
- Comment on Welp, it happened. For the first time a Lemmy comment of mine was removed because a mod didn't like the viewpoint expressed. 4 months ago:
That part is still claiming you made a factual claim. And that part is still incorrect.
So, I noted that it is wildly inaccurate and far from a factual claim.
You can’t posit something reprehensible, a few paragraphs later decide you might be wrong and then be annoyed when people correct your original claim.

Well, you’re arguing that there’s some wider conspiracy etc. And in public discourse, ehhhhhh it’s more a very tricky line to walk.
But if you’re not talking in response to why this person has their comment removed, then it doesn’t seem particularly relevant.
It reminds me of when people are talking about the latest police killing of an unarmed Black man and a right winger comes in to talk about Black on Black violence statistics, not particularly relevant and it feels like they’re doing it to demonize the group in question.

Because I don’t think it’s cool to accuse the Israeli government of having a policy of rape? Jesus, get a grip kid.

You know, come to think of it, maybe if I think a group is doing things with which I disagree, I ought to be able to make up whatever other offenses too. It’s like when women who have abortions become racist and transphobic, which is why abortion should be prohibited. /s

Read the first paragraph of the first link you submitted “An Israeli Defense Forces officer who has been imprisoned since 2017 for multiple sexual offenses, including the rape of…”
In other words, the Israeli defence force arrested the guy for rape.
If you actually have news that indicates rape is a government policy, then post the article and see what happens.
But, one of the tried and tested approaches for right wing trolling is to lobby a whole bunch of accusations with some nonsense ina semi related thread and force everyone else to go and debunk them ad nauseum, it’s not particularly enjoyable and is exactly why we have moderators.

Read the comment again, closely. Arguing the Israeli government has a policy of rape is pretty gross.

Ehhh, accusing the Israeli government of having a policy of rape is pretty out there and kind of indistinguishable from general anti semitism. Fwiw, I’d have removed it too.
- Comment on Dark side of Starbucks app: Coffee giant accused of rigging payments to the tune of nearly $900 million over 5 years | Fortune 4 months ago:
Ha, completely forgot about this.
You should read that article carefully though. They even outline why this is a money maker later:
You might be wondering, how did I get $1650 in total revenue from a $1500 sale? Well, it’s true, because you were able to take 10% of the gift card in breakage income, and on an individual order/customer it can look funny, but on the whole, with your P&L, it’ll be offset by another gift card purchase not being used and money that was “indefinitely deferred!”
So, uhhh, I guess I’d ask, why would you comment on something about which you know nothing?

- Comment on Dark side of Starbucks app: Coffee giant accused of rigging payments to the tune of nearly $900 million over 5 years | Fortune 4 months ago:
Nope, the money is counted as income straight away. Think about the process: person gives cash for gift card. Merchant now had the money and a promise to give that amount of inventory at a future date. Some of those promises are never acted upon, in which case merchant has the gift card money AND the merch which they can also sell.

In a former life, I sold point of sale (POS) machines. We got bonuses for selling stuff like gift card add ons and the number one selling point to retailers was that some significant percentage of cards are never redeemed at all.
