- Comment on I rented many games solely based on their covers, only to be mildly disappointed when I got home. 4 weeks ago:
To be fair, I’ve never seen anything come close to Amanos illustratative work.
- Comment on New Final Fantasy Cubic Memory Collectibles Bring Classic Game Screens to Life | Retro Gaming News 24/7 4 weeks ago:
Is there a space on your shelf for one of these cubes?
Honestly, no. Square Enix in recent years have introduced so much acrylic crap for fans and collectors, and it mostly looks like cheap tat. To me this is just another set of junk to add to the pile.
- Comment on [Tom Warren] The PS5 Pro still hasn’t sold out in the US or UK. Looks like the $700 price point will mean this console will be readily available this holiday 1 month ago:
It is an option, and uses the same drive that is available for the PS5 Slim - the one you have.
- Comment on Happy 25th Anniversary, Sega Dreamcast! 2 months ago:
25 years already?! It doesn’t seem that long ago. I might see if I can dig mine out - Jet Set Radio or Sonic…
- Comment on Peter Molyneux thinks generative AI is the future of games, all but guaranteeing that it won't be 2 months ago:
Remember that time when Peter Molyneux said he wasn’t going to speak the press or about games anymore?
“I understand that people are sick of hearing my voice and hearing my promises. So I’m going to stop doing press and I’m going to stop talking about games completely.”
- Comment on Silent Hill 2 Remake: First 90 Minutes of Gameplay Explored | Retro Gaming News 24/7 2 months ago:
I’m looking forward to playing this, so will be staying staying away from anything early like this, and not even clicking through.
To go with the discussion prompt; I do think modern games can, but they need to stay as true as possible in a number of ways. Games like Silent Hill 2 won’t benefit from changing the combat to something more action oriented, and the story needs to be as close as possible. Sometimes things may differ and that’s understandable, but the question has to be asked, “Is this the game that would have been made back then if they had todays funding, technology, or knowledge?”
- Comment on Astro Bot | Review Thread (95 OpenCritic) 2 months ago:
Me and my kid played it for a little while earlier and it’s so good in it’s simplicity. I can’t wait to go back and play more. But it also me instantly wonder why Sony haven’t got Asobi to do a new Ape Escape.
- Comment on What are some game series you would like to see revived? And if possible, which entry should the new game follow from? 2 months ago:
I can across this a while back that might scratch some of the SSX itch for me - its an indy game that takes heavy inspiration from SSX. There’s a basic demo, it plays quite well on Steam Deck. Though I wasn’t a fan of the controls, so hoping the dev changes them or allows them to be changed.
- Comment on Final Fantasy Creator Reveals Which Entry He Thinks Is 'Most Complete', and It's Not Final Fantasy 7 2 months ago:
There’s no doubt about this. My favourites in the franchise usually differ from other people and fans that I know. It really does make it a pleasure being a fan of Final Fantasy as it holds such a diverse fandom that conversations often hold interesting takes, views and more.
- Comment on Day 45 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots 2 months ago:
I still have my 1.0 disc, given how useful it is now, it horrifies my friends when they find out I’m using it as a coaster. I stopped playing before I could get the rewards too, so seeing people with the tattoos always makes me sigh.

I’d recognise Limsa Lominsa anywhere. I’ve been playing since 1.0, with some breaks here and there. FFXIV is one of my favourite games ever, for story and gameplay.
I hope you enjoy it and have a great experience. Feel free to join us at !finalfantasyxiv@lemmy.world as well.

- Comment on Croc: Legend of the Gobbos (2024) - Teaser Trailer 2 months ago:
at the very least remakes should include a copy of the original game playable on the same device, either as a port or via emulation.
I’d love to see developers and publishers start to do this. Though I am interested in Tomb Raider and how they handle the graphic toggling, which seems like a half-way point to what you’re describing.
- Comment on Croc: Legend of the Gobbos (2024) - Teaser Trailer 2 months ago:
I remember this well from my childhood, so it was nice to see that trailer. I love how they seem to have barely changed anything except higher res textures and models. I’ll be looking at getting this when its out.

I think I’d rather deal with the inconvenience of hooking them up when I need, than the anxiety that I’m living with a fire hazard like this.

Ridge Racer - Namco have really done it dirty and would love to see it revived. Take it back to basics as a pure arcade racer without the Burnout nonsense.
Timesplitters - Just pleeeeaaase.
Alundra - It was a JRPG on PSX and nothing ever came after the second game. It had loads of potential.
SSX - I still love the stupidity of those early games. Would love to see a fun another snowboarding game that doesn’t take it self seriously.
- Comment on [Aug 2024] What are the current most active forums for specific video game discussions. 2 months ago:
There is a !horizon@lemmy.world community but unfortunately there just isn’t the interest to build an active community here (on Lemmy) for specific games at the moment. !games@lemmy.world seems to be a good place for it at the moment but feel free to cross-post.
- Comment on SILENT HILL 2 | Story Trailer 2 months ago:
There’s going to be negative comments, and that can’t be changed. But I do agree that they’re often through rose tinted glasses.
- Comment on SILENT HILL 2 | Story Trailer 2 months ago:
I’d disagree. I think the changes they’ve made with Eddie look great. He looks sickly and tired, unhinged and empty as a result of the bullying, lifestyles he’s led and the personal hell he’s experiencing.

- Comment on Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars – Reforged Releases On September 19 | Retro Gaming News 24/7 2 months ago:
Do you have fond memories of the original game?
I first played it on the PSX, missing the PC version, it left a great impression on me and now long in to my adult years I play it more than any other game. Like once a year. It’s such a great story and the team behind it told it wonderfully.
The soundtrack is definitely one of my favourite parts of the game so to see them use original masters to bring improved music is a huge highlight. The death of Barrington Pheloung has been, in my opinion, one of the most tragic losses to video game music.
- Comment on Actors demand action over 'disgusting' video game sex scenes 2 months ago:
I don’t believe you’re wrong here in saying that. These don’t seem like unreasonable asks at all, and something I’d expect to be normal standards for the industry.
- Comment on Sony Reportedly Pauses PlayStation VR2 Production to Clear Backlog of Unsold Units 8 months ago:
It’s was the lack of backwards compatibility that killed it for me. I’d had niggling considerations of PSVR1 for some time, then PSVR2 was announced and I was all ready to hand over my money. Until it became clear there was no backward compatibility. So I own neither.
- Comment on FINAL FANTASY XIV for Xbox Series X|S Launches March 21 8 months ago:
Not exactly. PlayStation version uses the same payment methods as the PC version. So though you can’t pay through PS Store you don’t have all this extra layer of Coin crap to deal with that Xbox has apparently enforced on them.
