Let’s not conflate anti-Israeli-government with antisemitism. That’s a tired old tactic that’s run its course.
- Comment on How far does the BDS Movement go? 7 months ago:
I have no idea. That’s a pertinent question that needs an answer.

A fair point.

Yes, and even easier with their app. It just seems strange.

Lamy Copper Orange is my go-to fall ink. Not sure what I’ll use when it runs out.
- Comment on Nextcloud alternatives 9 months ago:
It runs quite nicely on my Pi 3 with Apache and no Docker. I only use cloud storage, but the rest seems to work fine if needed. Maybe switching to a supported configuration would help?
- Comment on ipads were just updated to 16.6.1 to fix a security issue that allowed pegasus to be installed onto an apple device. will iphone 7 running 15.7.8 get an update to fix the same issue? 9 months ago:
Apple, in particular, seems a favorite target of NSO. And Apple seems intent on winning their game of whack-a-mole. It would expect them to patch as far back as justifiable and feasible.

But seriously, excellent question. I certainly don’t post anything even remotely controversial from an account with my real name.

I think you’ve summed up the major considerations nicely. It seems I’m probably looking for something middle-of-the-road in all regards.

I have a Mastodon account, but I do seem to spend most of my time here. I’ll check out lemm.ee for a secondary account. Thanks.

My bad. The sidebar isn’t visible by default on mobile. Taking care of it ASAP

I’ll take a look at the closest regional. Given where I’m located in the US, though, I suspect that the Local feed would be all but unbearable to me.

I don’t remember hearing of SDF before. It looks like a project that’s right up my alley. Thanks!

Thanks for this. It’s good to know. I also wonder which other instances have people found helpful for creating a secondary account.

- Comment on Apple says it will remove services such as FaceTime and iMessage from the UK rather than weaken security if new proposals are made law and acted upon. 11 months ago:
Why can’t the UK govt simply rent their spyware from Israel, like everyone else?
- Comment on Two Nextcloud instances for security? 11 months ago:
Understandable, but if you’re sharing it, it’s not private in that sense anyway. This may be a legitimate use case for GDrive, Dropbox, Box, etc. Or just use sneakernet.

It’s a Chromebook. It certainly can’t operate any worse just because they washed it. ;)

All the technical discussion is interesting. But perhaps more importantly, is it time to consider a new bank?
- Comment on Data privacy: how to counter the "I have nothing to hide" argument? 11 months ago:
The thing that astounds me about this story and those like it is that people discuss such things on unencrypted messaging apps. As much as possible, I don’t discuss anything more significant than the weather on those platforms.
