  At the time when Hitler killed himself, he was well and truly out of options. He could have fled Berlin weeks earlier, but at that point that simply wasn’t possible any more.

  Explanation: In the last days of WW2, and for some time thereafter, many prominent Nazis fled Germany rather than face justice for their innumerable crimes. Many fled to South America, where fascist-sympathetic groups could be found and a ‘low visibility’ lifestyle could be maintained; some were welcomed by the pro-fascist strongman of Argentina, Juan Peron (who also, strangely enough, had welcomed Jewish refugees fleeing the Nazis).

  Hitler, on the other hand, blew his brains out. If only all Nazis had followed his path.
