Ehh too late… the whole tracking ID and systemic enshittification (no I don’t want one drive, edge, ads on the start menu, forced into a MS account, …) I made 2026 the year of the Linux desktop. Cachy mainly (it goes great) with fedora and Debian on other boxes. Couldn’t be happier.

nothing about windows 11 feels coherent. even the pieces that are already 100% the new 'WinUI' are objectively non-standard, and fucking ugly. the entire fucking operating system has lost any inherent obviousness to utility. every god damn piece of this is 'guess the interface'. it might be a hidden menu, it might be a link of some obscure comment on the 'page'.. who fucking knows... and those are the fixed menus!

its so bad you are forced to use the search to find menu/configuration items. what the ever loving fuck.

this piece of shit it in current forms has 1000 fucking cooks in the one kitchen, none of whom actually speak to each other and theres zero desire to make the system actually usable for end users.
i expect this in linux, but i am absolutely paying for what im getting there.

this is no longer an operating system.. its a service delivery network that you have no control over, just like apple.

...at least apples evil had style.

And you still have to find the old, old control panel to set a static IP configuration. And when you do that dialog box still looks exactly the same as it did in Windows for Workgroups 3.11.

You mean this Frankenstein’s Monster that is possibly 5 OSes hidden inside? I think I occasionally see win7 config menus hidden in there occasionally. I am so disappointed I have to use this hot dog vomit for work. The fact genuine IT professionals do not walk away from this makes me really start questioning some people credentials.

      Edit:

I noticed you talked about the nature of Linux being disjointed. Honestly, once I started staying to the relevant DE type with apps, my experience has been much more cohesive than Win11. My main issue is still weird bugs but, hell, I get more of those on Win11 than my Arch machines.

They’re building it for their agentics. Humans are no longer their target customer.
