Unity plays the reverse victim “death threats” card because it made a universally panned decision.

seems tobe the favourite deflection strategy of gaming companies after the management attempts something controversial

They were really on the ball doing this, knowing them I’m sure they had the death threats ready before they even made the announcement. Wouldn’t be the first time a company fabricated its own victimization, and it’s the smart choice if your PR goals aren’t tempered by ethics.

They’re only credible because Unity is doing something really fuckinf stupid.

Death threats aren’t a nice thing to do
But also lol

You reap what you sow. Death threats are no joke, but I’d be surprised if you didn’t get any after making such a shitty decision

While I dislike death threats, the idea that a bunch of rich CEOs can kill indie games devs with one decision is really bad! I support other actions against unity mainly since there is a bunch of employees who don’t have anything to do with this scared for their lives right now.

If only there was a way for the company leadership to make everyone happy again…

They are definitely deserving of many complaints and threats. Of course with the sheer number, some will end up being the undeserving kind. I wouldn’t ever wish harm to the employees of Unity.
Non-physical entities considered persons exclusively for legal reasons on the other hand…

Fuck it, I’m blaming the victim. What did they expect?
dinckelman@lemmy.world 1 year ago
No matter what shitty corporate excuse they give us, death threats are never, ever okay. The people working regular jobs there are never in control of these decisions

My friend works at unity. She’s a sweet person who takes care of an elderly dog in her free time. She was very opposed to this decision.
Does she deserve to die?
starman2112@sh.itjust.works 1 year ago
Of course not. I actually never said anyone deserves to die. If you read through the thread a little bit further, you’ll see me say that my impotent anger (and lack of calls for violence) are directed at whoever is responsible for this moneygrubbing sin.
I’m still blaming the company though. It, as a whole, is fucking over thousands of people. It should expect some people to react angrily when they see that their career, or at least the biggest part of their career, is over, and it’s because some semi-sentient suit decided he wanted more money right now, at the cost of the company’s reputation and your friend’s career after the company inevitably closes.
