If it was practical it would be nice. But there is no part of this that is.
Uhh… What happens when a Cessna flies through the beam?
A 1W laser can burn paper in a couple of seconds. A kilowatt is a dangerous and retina exploding amount of light to be firing off into the sky willy nilly. I really don’t see a way to engineer around the issue.
Wasn’t this an Ace Combat game ?
I wonder what airspace authorities think about their “layered security”

Really cool to see this is real instead of just another “could be” article. It would be interesting to see what Ukranian forces do with this.

Cool tech, but the issue with this in warfare is that you paint a shiny line through the air between your recharge point and your drone, giving away the position of both.
