  Remember Ringback tones? Where you could pay money so when someone calls you, the caller hears a song instead of the standard carrier ring.

  It’s technology waiting to be exploited. Imagine every time you call someone and their phone rings you hear a 5 second ad. Multiple ads if they don’t pick up.

      Spam calls are unwanted phone calls. They’re usually trying to sell you something. They may or many not try to scam you.

  Cory Doctorow once gave the example of a phone company doing a deal with Domino’s so that every time you called a rival pizzeria, you got “press 1 to be connected to Domino’s or wait 30 seconds to be put through to the number you dialled”
