Melissa Sims said her nightmare began after she called police during an argument with her boyfriend, when she said he allegedly ransacked her home.
After eight months of legal wrangling by her attorney, prosecutors dropped the bond violation charge against her. And, last month, she went to trial on the battery charge and was acquitted.

Because that takes more time and actual work. By forcing her to trial, prosecutors and police get to up their numbers.
Most messaging services that people use these days aren’t showing up in “phone records”.

Welcome to fascism. Anyone (== law enforcement) will be able to produce fake evidence and send you to prison, or worse.

Did he? I read the article and it seemed to omit any mention of that. It’s kind of implied by the word ‘deepfake’ but the exact role AI may have had here is not clear.
