The first stage of every* change in government is war.
*I’m sure someone will find an edge case and make an outsized deal about it.

I wonder who coined the proverbn “history repeats itself”
deHaga@feddit.uk 4 days ago
Not really. War is bad for economies, reduces demand.

Weapons are produced by capitalists. War increases demand for weapons.
Destruction renews demand. War is destruction.
Capitalism has the tendency towards mono-/oligopolies rather than equity. Therefore, over time, decision power becomes centralized and it’s less likely that decisions wil be made for the overall economy rather than oligopolists. As all this is known since 3 centuries, existing national capitalisms took several measures against these tendencies. However, international capitalists are harder to manage. Also, most assets are collective attributions. E.g. if the stakeholders think, X, SpaceX, PayPal and Tesla, etc. aren’t worth a penny, Musk will rank down instantly.

I know. But war is net bad. It may be good for a few arms makers, but overall it’s net bad for capitalist economies.

How’s Russia and Ukraine’s economies going?
BeatTakeshi@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Economies of the peoples maybe
deHaga@feddit.uk 4 days ago
No, the economy. The country. Everyone but a few arms dealers.
The opportunity cost is massive.

Even though this is rule breaking content, I’m still going to engage with it.
What you’re describing is close to an analysis done by Lenin in Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism.
Imperialism is capitalism at that stage of development at which the dominance of monopolies and finance capital is established; in which the export of capital has acquired pronounced importance; in which the division of the world among the international trusts has begun; in which the division of all territories of the globe among the biggest capitalist powers has been completed
As long as capitalism remains what it is, surplus capital will be used not for raising the standard of living of the masses, but for increasing profits by exporting capital abroad, to backward countries
The war of 1914–1918 (i.e. WW1) was an imperialist war, a war for the division of the world, for the partition and repartition of colonies and spheres of influence of finance capital, etc.
The uneven and spasmodic development of individual enterprises, individual branches of industry, and individual countries is inevitable under capitalism.
and
Peaceful alliances prepare the ground for wars, and in their turn grow out of wars; the one conditions the other
Essentially, war occurs because capitalism develops unevenly. Rising powers demand a new division of the world’s resources; leading to war. Thus, modern wars are fights over redistributing control, not defending freedom or national honor.

You are from the grammar police and still engage in illegal posts??? Wtf man

It’s greed and the oppression of the masses. It’s more of a human nature thing than a capitalism thing.

Apologies. The thought did occur to me under the shower this morning (EU timz), and I posted before checking the rules (and before checking the news of the day, which got me to swear WTAF out loud)

No worries! I am not a mod or anything, I just miss the way r/showerthoughts used to be prior to the enshitification of Reddit. It was one of my favorite internet places. I wouldn’t mention this at all if it wasn’t a rule in the sidebar.
Your post is pretty benign and doesn’t involve partisan politics so I’m actually regretting mentioning it a little bit. Thanks for being polite.
