  Business idiots are killings jobs. Generarive AI is just their excuse to do it and threat to make people feel more replacable.

  Generative AI can’t replace shit, but the lie that they can and do, is the weapon wielded more than the tech itself.

    I used to be on the gross margin improvement team. Basically our job was to implement projects which reduced cost.

    I don’t think a single person’s job was eliminated because of my work. I remember creating about 35 jobs. For example I had a project where I identified about $900k in potential savings per year. We had to spend $50k one time and hire an employee for about $60k per year but still saved about $900k.

    Employees are cheap(even expensive ones). Simple things like hire an employee to check something at step 3 so you are not paying people to do steps 4-20 will easily pay for itself if that issue at step 3 happens enough. Like for example that’s the whole point of unit testing software. Pay someone to write tests all day everyday even at an high salary, say $150k reduces costs of tech support, reduces cost of later testing, improves value of product, increases sales etc. If you want to be negative this is value stolen from the worker. But if an employee doesn’t make you a profit, why are they a employee? Like if you pay $70k for an employee who causes $50k in revenue… Fire them and make yourself a 20k raise. Now if you pay someone $70k and they make you $700k that’s immoral…

  While the analysis suggests ChatGPT — one of the most widely used text-based forms of generative AI — is rapidly changing the mix of occupations on offer to tech workers, it is not shifting the composition of jobs throughout the entire US economy at a much swifter pace than the arrival of computers and the internet.

  The headline vs the actual graphs is suspicious to me.

  Is it “AI is not replacing jobs” or “AI is not replacing jobs faster than [insert other things that have definitely replaced jobs]”

  Idiots with MBAs are killing jobs. We laid off our entire HR team for ChatGPT with a custom prompt. It made up all sorts of fake HR rules that didn’t exist. Now the company is in legal troubles.

  So guess what they did next? Lay off half of the legal department! They were talking about using copilot for tenant security next. That’s my teams domain so I’ve been looking for an exit.

  Not sure which will fall first: my position or the company.

  Rich assholes firing people to make the leftovers work twice as hard to “incorporate AI” into their workflow is though.

  The job losses are fucking REAL, and everyone expects you to use this tedious bullshit now.

  AI is a cover for the delocalization of 1000s of jobs that now can be done in the 3rd world with the help of language models to make up for the language deficits of local populace. Several pharma, auto and IT services have now been moved to India and the layoffs given the cover of “economic headwinds”. I.e. Bosh is killing thousands of jobs in Germany but hiring thousands in India!? In the past year alone BOSCH India hired over 1000 people in India for the same class of jobs they are now extinguishing in Germany.

  These CEOs should be hunted like animals, they keep ruining entire lives in the hunt for a bump in profits.

  Because they’re a lot less capable than these companies are telling us they are.

  Don’t get me wrong, you can frequently get some excellent results with them… but you can also get some really shit ones.

  So not only does the bulk of this work require someone to do all the prompts, they also need to thoroughly check the work afterwards, meaning you’re not really gaining much, if anything at all.

  Sooner or later, the venture capital propping up AI will realise that these enormous savings from laying people off en-masse isn’t going to materialise, and they’ll want their money back. The market correction will be huge.
