I’ll note that this is a very atypical solar facility:
I don’t expect to see much more solar thermal built to replace it; photovoltaic has gotten too good and too cheap.
Does this plant produce power at night? CA is still struggling with that issue, and solar alone won’t solve it.
Some, but batteries are a lot cheaper and scaling up in a way that solar thermal never did
Sure I’m not saying build more. But shutting it down after we already spent the money is a different question. Batteries help but they won’t solve the whole issue in the near future.
An honesty fascinating concept for its time; but definitely outdated tech. Time to cover that site in photovoltaic cells.
That site is something special… Basically lobbying against renewable energy, promoting “the hydraulic fracturing revolution”, and stating how bad an Obama policy was in nearly every article.
Yeah, the US media landscape is full of stuff like this. I usually try to avoid them when I can find other coverage

The future trend of energy development is destined to be the mixed use of multiple energy sources, such as nuclear power replacing thermal power and hydropower becoming the mainstream, while light energy sources such as solar photovoltaic and wind power serve as auxiliary energy sources.
