Go outside. Touch some grass. Leave your phone at home. Do this every day. There’s still an entire world out there, with far more pleasant surprises than you might assume or could even imagine. You can do this. The internet can be a wonderful resource when not abused, but it is in and of itself not a way of life. It may bring you entertainment and knowledge, but only using it won’t bring you the joy and satisfaction that you desire in your life. That will be found elsewhere, oftentimes beyond the screen. Don’t listen to those fat snakes in Silicon Valley that peddle their Facebook/Tinder/LinkedIn but for horses as the one and only way to achieve and get ahead in life these days. They only want you to believe that so that you will get hooked on their ad-revenue machine. You can live your life to the fullest just fine without them.
Are ya?

This strikes a perfect balance of masochistically (nothing’s perfect) impractical romantic nonsense (which i adore) and completely useless unthreatening meaningless bullshit that will serve to change nothing but fuel your disillusionment by convincing you how impossible better things are when it fails, not if, because it’s unsustainable and provides no benefit to you.
So here’s a quickie non-bullshit version:
Your technology has all betrayed you. It was never yours. But it could be.
When the internet was taken from us by corporations peddling influence over our behavior, they stole more than just some intelkectual property. They stole our relationships with each other, and, i think, if you look at scifi media by release date; our ability to imagine, maybe even to want, a better future.
Reclaim it with FOSS and cutting toxic maliciously operated networks out of your life. Learn to use your computer rather than be used by it. Build the networks we were promised. Take your connection to others back, and with it, perhaps, your future.
Also, semi-related but less inspirational: turn palo alto to radioactive fucking glass. Organize a new order for humanity, if only to hunt down any of the bastards who survive by being on their private islands when the bombs go off, and kill every living thing in their bunkers, then grind the island defiled by their touch down until its a pit in the fucking sea floor.

That’s certainly the truth and I agree with you fully, but I just wanted to remind people that not being on the web all the time/terminally online might make you feel a bit better. I believe that some people might be so far up Plato’s cave (read: Zuck’s rectum) that they simply might not understand how the technology that they use is actively hostile to them. Your words will land much better on people who have noticed that they are indeed living in the midst of shit, and I think that regularly going outside is the first step of that.

Outside smells like car exhaust, sounds like car engines, and looks like car sewers
