      IIRC it’s done entirely through the mental link, the “reciever’s” body just fertilises the egg on its own, somehow using the dna of the partner. I assume it’s transmitted through the link, but they also can’t be using it like we do since all asari children are fully asari.

  I really like idea that they only look sexy to us the player because we’re human and that they look Turian to a Turian, Salarian to Salarians and so on because they emit something (pheromones or empathy waves) that alters the perception of other races.

    Exactly. With the information we have arguably my theory of a universal hallucinogenic compound that likewise alters perception makes more sense than a lifeform being able to connect their nervous system to that of an entirely foreign to them species.
