I see posts that say “rule” or “ultimate rule” a lot. What does this mean in Lemmy land?

You’re probably looking at posts of one of the “196” communities. The main rule in these communities is “post before you leave” and most posts just use the title “rule” to refere to that.
Not lemmy exclusive, it was around on reddit, too.
Why 196? And what’s with “post before you leave”? As in, before you die?
