Their asses are so very chapped by this whole situation and I love it. I hope the EU slaps them again for this move.

Good way to identify that you won’t be subject to the App Store tax

Good way for Apple to say “Don’t come crying to us for a refund.”

Like they would refund you anyways

Looks like someone at Apple is butthurt :D

“Butthurt” implies personal offense. This is about maximizing profit, nothing else.

Didn’t they get fined or something by the US for lying about policies related to this issue? I can’t imagine the EU wouldn’t be even more strict on this considering existing precedence.

A lot of court cases will come with a judgement where it’s important to implement said judgement with how it was intended.

This, obviously, is not what was intended. I think it’ll have a funny side effect of people now beit able to see when they’re being extorted by apple, but still.

We’re I the EU, I would fine the hell out of apple for this bullshit. However, I’m not and something tells me that this is as far as it will go, unfortunately.

That’s fine from a security point of view, even if a bit obnoxious.

People will get their payment details stolen due to the changes around payments. That’s 100% guaranteed. Apple are just pointing out that it’s not their problem.

Oh, bless Apple’s heart, always looking out for us! It’s purely coincidental that their “concern” aligns perfectly with protecting their profit margins and crushing any semblance of competition. I’m sure the irony of a company that has faced numerous privacy concerns itself is completely lost on you. And I’m sure that little red exclamation mark isn’t designed to scare anyone into using Apple Pay exclusively. No, absolutely not. It’s just good, old-fashioned corporate altruism! 😊

Believe it or not, after 20 years of people buying things on iPhone apps, people will assume it’s safe and easily refundable when things go wrong, only to find out that because they paid for something through a dodgy payment gateway in an app on the App Store their credit card details have been stolen.

This will happen. There are thousands of online stores that insecurely handle credit card details. It might only be 0.5% of people, but it will happen and anyone saying it won’t has clearly not paid attention to the cybersecurity world.

I credit Apple in many ways for their choice to design their business in a way that their profit motive often aligns with their users’ interests.

Their app store model for iOS is one of the strongest examples of them not doing that though.
