Who care about the city? The things that actually matter:
- specs
- Quality of the chip
Are these things worth $400? Hell no. But I still don’t think this is a good comparison.

Gotta milk the dummies
Yeah Apple has always overcharged for memory and storage…
Hence why they very rarely include expandable storage as an option on their devices. Gotta overcharge the suckers for a laughably small increase in storage space. Or even better: Have them pay monthly fees for cloud storage.
It’s been this way since I bought my first Performa back in 95.
I got some RAM and a dozen Zip disks for Christmas instead of
Apple customers are shmucks
It’s just funny now.
Paying the Apple tax is a known part of the deal. It’s not always worth it for an individual but it is nice having an Apple Store in every major city (at least in the U.S.). I got my mom a MacBook because she lives 45 minutes away and I was sick of being her tech support for an operating system I don’t use regularly.
I got my stepdad a Chromebook last year when he asked me to fix his laptop. I said sure and then it was this giant 32 bit antique running Windows Vista. I was just like, “I would rather buy a Chromebook than connect this thing to my WiFi network.”
I use all the operating systems, by the way. I have Arch on my Steam Deck, I guess. More of a Fedora man myself but to each their own. I ain’t judging.

What do you mean “the same city”? What does this statement say about the quality of the chip? I get when you say " the same factory" or “the same company” but “the same city” says nothing. Isnt lots of different tech produced in a few chinese cities?

Weird take. Regardless of where the Apple memory was made, its quality isn’t 16x better.

I mean, yes, obviously. Still, “made in the same city” is a wierd description implying that all ram produced there has the same quality.

Tuborg and Carlsberg are also made in the same city. Doesn’t make them the same beer.

if they’re talking about Shenzhen, that’s like the electronics manufacturing capital of the world, most we buy are partly or fully made there

But commenter is right. Just cuz it’s in the same city doesn’t mean it’s the same quality. If they’re made with the same components, that’d carry more weight than simply being made in the same city.
