If you generalize the term “civilization” to be any sufficiently large group of people who have some sense of shared purpose or identity you could include gaming communities or even forums too
Things usually don’t just explode all at once though ofc sometimes there is abrupt change that causes a community to decay rapidly

Wow that was one of my favorite parts about Oblivion. You could break it so easily
I had a wizard who was maxed out in basically ever skill except the magic skills so when I finally did the mages guild quest line I was face tanking everything
I was so over powered I started breaking the enchantment system bc I had done every important quest and could afford anything (100% chameleon was hilarious)
And let’s not forget that jumping off mountains to level up is clearly the best mechanic of all time
Maybe I’ll skip this one if they removed the good jank

Wages haven’t kept up with inflation so comparisons like this are only a small part of the picture

- Comment on ChatGPT spends 'tens of millions of dollars' on people saying 'please' and 'thank you', but Sam Altman says it's worth it 6 days ago:
Honestly they were better until recently. GPT (at least) has gotten really good at de-escalation and providing (mostly) factual responses when you get irate
- Comment on Google has illegal advertising monopoly, judge rules 6 days ago:
the article is talking about how they could have a booming ad business but at present have little to none
The Cupertino tech giant is not an advertising company, however. Chatterjee notes that Apple’s decision to only show a single Search Ad in its App Store could limit the revenue opportunity relative to his prior expectations.

- Comment on Organic Maps migrates to Forgejo due to GitHub account blocked by Microsoft. 3 weeks ago:
GitHub has slowly become an advertising platform for repos more than anything. I miss what it was just a couple of years ago. It did exactly what you needed when you needed it. Now it’s just so bloated

- Comment on Why are there so many graybeards in FOSS? 2 months ago:
So a lot of people have pointed out the obvious factors like experience, time, and money. But I think a another big one is the culture. A lot of FOSS has been impenetrable ime with how many keyboard warriors exist in discord and forum communities. Doesn’t exactly make the newbie experience the best
