I’m not being patient at all this week. In fact, I’m being the complete opposite. NextFest is ongoing, so I am NextFesting for all I’m worth. See it as investments into future patient gaming. I’m sowing the seeds of future on-sale purchases down the road.

At first I was disheartened by the deluge of Claude Code vomit projects (some of them seemingly spat out from a single prompt), but after sifting through the muck - admittedly requiring several more times effort than usual - I’ve at least managed to restore my faith temporarily by unearthing some interesting potential gems.

I already mentioned some cliff notes here, but I might write a longer standalone post too if I can find the energy. And that is only a small selection of the games I’ve played, anyway.

I’ve been enjoying Battle Brothers. Enough that I’ve added their next game to my wish list.

Note that I didn’t say I was good at the game, just that I am enjoying it.

Cyberpunk is currently out of the picture since I’m still waiting for all of the mods to update for the 2.5 patch. That, and because the game won’t launch with redmod enabled for some reason, even with no mods deployed. Ahh, the love-hate relationship with long term updates for mod heavy games…

In the meantime I’ve been jumping between few different things but on the gaming side I mostly went back to KuloNiku, a cosy cooking game with a cute art style and simple but enjoyable gameplay. It has two modes:

    • normal - run and improve your restaurant, interact and bond with characters, take part in cooking duels to raise your fame.
    • endless - just keep cooking.

What I really like, beside the gameplay in general, is the fact that all of the orders are somewhat randomised so you don’t end up going through the motions making the exact same recipes. Sometimes people want more of specific ingredient or flavour, other times they don’t want something in their food and sometimes they want a custom meal altogether - it’s nothing too crazy but it adds enough variety to keep things interesting.

Besides that, I also played around with the editor for Shadowrun Hong Kong. Not that I’m planning to actually do anything with it (I have enough to do with my current project) but I always wanted to look at one of these games from the technical side.
Editor feels a bit clunky (mostly a “me” issue since I’m not familiar with it) but I could see myself explore a bit more of it when I have some free time. Could make for a fun experiment and a good way to test some ideas.

I beat Morrowind last week for the first time! I’ve been trying to get into it for years and years and it never clicked but I finally got the hang of it and I’m totally obsessed now. This game is seriously incredible. I’m messing around with lightly modded Morrowind now (just the I Heart Vanilla pack through OpenMW) and it’s been great. I eventually want to do some of the bigger content mods too, but there’s so much about the base game I haven’t explored yet, and I have barely touched the DLCs too so I have a ways to go before doing content mods.

I’m messing around with an alchemy build now and holy shit it’s overpowered. I get the memes now. 3.5 hours in and I’m a god already, and I don’t even know all the exploits and stuff, I’m just sort of playing the game normally just with some alchemy mixed in and I’m already insanely wealthy and strong, it’s crazy.

What did you think of the ending? MW has my favorite TES main quest, Dagoth Ur is such an interesting bad guy.

I thought it was great. I really liked how after entering Dagoth Ur you hear his voice almost like an intercom. For a game with very little voice acting I’m glad they did a lot for him. From the Ghostgate to Dagoth Ur was a bit annoying but not terrible by any means. Those stupid enemies with paralysis were the worst part for sure. And those enemies that drain strength were also quite annoying. But otherwise it was really fun. And it felt awesome too, and I love how people in the overworld actually recognize what you’ve done, unlike in some other games (cough Skyrim cough).

You have at least three entire playthroughs-worth of content to go through with Tamriel Rebuilt. It adds the rest of the entirety of mainland Morrowind for you to explore, which is about twice as much land area than base game Vvardenfell. There are tons of new towns and cities, quests, NPCs, locations, creatures, etc. in the mod.

And there are “sister” projects like Skyrim: Home of The Nords and Project Cyrodiil, whose aims are to rebuild the entirety of those provinces accurately based on lore from the time Morrowind came out, within Morrowind itself.

I’m very excited to try TR. I haven’t done any research in the other two you mentioned but I’ll look into them too. Thanks for the recommendations.

Whenever I play Morrowind I use Galsiah’s character development mod. It replaces the horrible leveling system with a system that automatically levels you and your attributes based on the skills you use. That way you can pick your major and minor skills and actually use them without worrying if you’ve leveled misc skills enough to get a decent multiplier on level up . I consider that a must have mod.

I’ll definitely keep it in mind, thank you!

Making my way through Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I finally took a little time to set up MelonDS on my RP6 in a way that works for me.

Little Kitty, Big City hit a new lowest price ever on Switch, so I picked that up. Some aspects are a little “my first Unity game”, but it’s got a lot of charm.

All the RLS Career mods for BeamNG were updated with .40, so I’ll be starting that from scratch today. I figure while I’m in front of the wheel, I’ll drag out nohesi as well.
