Is there some worm-based geopolitical lore I’m missing??

Got tired of posing as Egyptian gods.
Oh funny, in the wiki article it mentions black coral to be megafauna. Never thought of corals as megafauna, fascinating!
And TIL the word megafauna so thanks!
Superorganism is a great term that kinda applies as well.
