Too bad all of the hippies got disillusioned and became CEOs. Unless I’m mistaken, every generation since has gone more to the left on aggregate. Fucking boomers.

I feel like America failed older generations too. The Vietnam war comes to mind immediately.

It wasn’t the same people. There’s just a lot of Boomers who lie about having been a hippie because it’s cool to have been a hippie now, but it was very unpopular at the time.
Mark my words, in 30 years everyone old will say they used to be a hacker.

Dude I nodded stardew valley once I’m totally a hacker

There was absolutely overlap. One of them is one of my parents is one of them.
Though I’m sure “finding Jesus” in the late 80s/early 90s didn’t help.

And then the war in Afghanistan too. Most just don’t want to be on the receiving end of Americas bullshit (which ironically includes Americans)

America has never been great so I’m not sure why MAGA as a saying even exists. It’s only ever been great for the ultra rich white man.

America has particularly failed veterans since the Revolutionary War, when soldiers weren’t paid the money they were promised and given IOUs(not joking).
But every generation of American has had a better life than the previous generation until now.
Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 6 months ago
Every generation up to and including boomers. Gen X, Millenials and Gen Z have had progressively worse conditions thanks mainly to boomer politicians pulling the ladder of social mobility up behind them in exchange for bribes from the rich and powerful.

That’s right, America NEVER took care of the vets, even when fighting for it’s own independence lmao
doublejay1999@lemmy.world 6 months ago
How are you measuring that ?
Fedizen@lemmy.world 6 months ago
famously benedict arnold was a hero in the war for independence who kept asking congress for unpaid wages until he finally snapped and when full brit sympathizer after congress fucked around a bunch.
David_Eight@lemmy.world 6 months ago
With a general understanding of American history. Do you disagree?
doublejay1999@lemmy.world 6 months ago
it’s not really about what i think, but it’s an enormous claim to make, based only on your general understand of American history.
I wonder if you dont find it a bit dismissive, and disrepectful of the challenges faced by those born into the great depression ? or into world war ii ? or those conscripted and sent to die in Vietnam ? Surely, anyone coming of age in those times, would be entitled to think “boy, the adults have really fucked shit up for us ?”
