I haven't read the manga, that's why I was confused. I don't think that relationship is really presented strongly in the anime.

The Manga goes as far as reminding the protagonist their true objectives against the antagonist’s, warping the thesis in that really dark implications, during their “Atonement with the Father/Abyss”.
The subtleties + themes really go that far with the implications of Crow Reids and Nadeshiko.
