Bible says at first breath. You’re wrong.

From a religious nut job perspective life begins at conception, not ejaculation, so you’re safe.

Where in the Bible are you referring to?
I’m an atheist now but was a handful of credit hours away from finishing my bachelor’s degree in “Bible”. There’s a verse in Genesis that talks about God breathing life into Adam, but that’s not talking about all humans.

From the scientific perspective, humans oscillate between haploid forms and diploid forms, all equally human.
Rodeo@lemmy.ca 11 months ago
Are haploid forms really considered complete? They literally have half the genetic material, don’t they? So you could say they are half as human.
dudinax@programming.dev 11 months ago
Some haploid forms are full grown adults, such as male ants and bees. The haploid form of fungi is usually dominant over the diploid form. Haploid forms are not some crippled half version. They are a complete life stage of the organism.
The fact that our diploid forms are what we call people, while the haploid forms are microscopic probably has more to do with how we have sex than anything.
You might argue that the diploid form is more robust genetically, but the sperm cell has great need for robustness.

I’d just call them human gametes.

The Morning After Pill is is technically not contraception as it happens after conception but prevents the embryo from attaching to the uterus wall (or something like that)
Curiousfur@yiffit.net 11 months ago
I thought its purpose was to tell the body to not ovulate as it simulates hormonal pregnancy, which is why it can also have rough side effects after. The copper IUD prevents an ovum from implanting in the uterine wall. The MAP does not prevent one getting pregnant if the egg has already dropped.
Disclaimer, I’m a guy and writing this on my morning commute, so if I’m wrong, please chime in and correct me.

That’s the normal contraceptive pill that you’d take regularly, the “morning after pill” is for when you’ve realised that you forgot to use any contraception and need to stop that embryo before it grows any more!
candybrie@lemmy.world 11 months ago
Even for the morning after pill, the main mechanism is to prevent/delay ovulation that cycle. It can reduce the likelihood of implantation, but it’s less effective at that mode of prevention. And if the embryo already implanted, it will do nothing.
LesserAbe@lemmy.world 11 months ago
Not sure if this is where you’re going with this, but some pro life advocates view contraception that prevents the implantation of a fertilized egg as an abortion (and hence murder)
smeg@feddit.uk 11 months ago
Oh I’m not going anywhere with it, just nit-picking.
I know Catholicism grabs you even earlier!
